Are We Alone?

A very intriguing question indeed. The link is certainly an eye opener when it comes to perspective and possibility. Personally, I believe there is life out there and one in the not too distant we will have the proof.

What are your thoughts?

yeah if I ever feel insignificant, I look at stuff like that  and end up in awe of just how tiny we are, overwhelming insignificance..gives me that pep to think we MUST have some significance, we just dont know what it is...but maybe Im pompous thinking we are important to anyone but our loved ones.Either way, it is a wondrous universe.

Gee Lucy...you don't need to feel awe struck around me!!!!!!

Actually, I tend to think we are not alone. It's impossible to fathom the concept that out of billions upon billions of planets, only one is able to support a carbon based life form.

Don't be fooled, The Universe wants to kill you. Or, at the very least, fuck you up.

Go forward with caution.

I have no doubt at all that we're not alone, but I hope I'm never proven right. At least, not in my lifetime.

Yes, I see "War of the Worlds" more than "Close Encounters"

I've seen posts in this forum that could only have been made by aliens.

So, not alone.

If it turns out that there is no way to move or communicate at a speed faster then light then there is a good chance the universe is teeming with life but we will not see or hear evidence before our species goes extinct. Or the next 4 or 5 intelligent species on this planet go extent or before our sun goes nova.

The distances and time to travel those vast distances even at the speed of light may mean only in a very old universe will it be possible for races to even know for sure that other alien races exist.

Of course we are not alone! The Earth is not flat either guv'nr.

I dont think it is too much to expect some contact with some Loving Beings. I am much more concerned about the not-so-loving ones. Crackers floating around in outer-space looking for, and stealing magnetic energy to fuel their evil intentional ways.

Those goggly-eyed little green bastards better stay the hell away from my magnets, god damn it. If I wake up some morning and find out that all the little calendar thingies and doctor's phone numbers and what-have-you have been abducted off of my refrigerator door, I'm going to show them anal probing like they never even dreamed of before.

Why just carbon based life forms ?

I listened to a program on NPR where scientist said that deep sea probes indicate that there are more unkown life forms in the , so far, little known depths of the oceans than land creatures and sea creatures in shallower depths. Some of theses creatures feed on extremey hot and toxic ( to us ) gases.

Given that, on our own planet , it seems one has to consider that life exists outside of parameters we think are necessAry for it. Then, considering that vastness of the universe and the numbers of galaxies, it's a sure bet that we are not alone.

There is intelligent life out there, I think humans are just too primative at the moment for them to contact us. Once we evolve (if we ever do)into a higher intelligence, perhaps then they will step forward. Plus the earth is atm a toxic dump, why vacation here when you can go to a nicer planet?
