That is certainly a fair point. I suppose it doesn't bother me because I so very rarely care about threads drifting this way and that. I agree that perhaps a different example would have been better. While I think the point was to draw on something so "bad" that most people would agree that it's morally wrong, that particular example hasn't been effective.

Eh, the OP hasn't been here in what? two weeks? and week and a half? I think she decided to stay in her situation and just doesn't want to discuss this any longer. So, the thread kind of evolved.

Malicious can mean a lot of things. Your country is amazing Aqua, i have travelled from New York to San Fransisco, tackled the Rockies in a snow blizzard, saw the Cow boy in Vegas. oh i had an totally ace trip (sorry to disappoint you, i would put a smiley here if i knew how to do it) but the money crazed Americans that sue for idiotic amounts of money and the system you have that actually encourages this behaviour, is very strange in my opinion... unfortunately something that is slowly becoming more acceptable here too... i am not sure if it is really any worse behaviour than the people doing the cheating, but i think it is at least as bad... like the article said, it depends on the circumstances.... and the amount of money to be gleaned obviously... i have to admit that somehow i find greed for money worse than lust for sex... so i don't think it is my cup of tea really.

It truly does not affect, suprise or disapoint me if you had a good time touring the US or not. Nice to hear that you did but truly doesn't affect me. I didn't, after all, say that you'd never been here, that you had a miserable time in America, that you hated America or anything else. I simply don't see any point in you bringing in your negative opinion of the country or painting Americans with such a wide brush. Quite frankly, it's the same thing that you were objecting to before when people were saying "Everyone who helps cheat is X, Y and Z". I agree with you that gold-digging isn't particularly moral. I never said it was. Personally, I don't find greed for money or lust for sex any better or worse than the other. It's specific actions people take that I would view as worse or better.

Having studied law, I do know that our law is based on old English law. They may have both evolved differently, I don't know. But I kind of doubt they evolved much differently.

FR- "Malicious" would easily be defined as she knew he was married and did it anyway. A spouse who sues for alienation of affection can not be made "whole" again with the lawsuit (which is the "objective" of a civil suit), but the concept of the large money awards is to make the attempt to dissuade people from committing the act by making the consequence significant enough to potentially deter anyone hearing about it from getting involved. Our laws wouldn't permit the "other" from wearing a great big scarlet "A" on their chest, and hitting someone in the wallet is usually a good way to make a point.
