The imagery of women either dancing with or draped by large snakes - can someone share with me what/how this is sexual imagery?  A friend of mine said "snakes are phallic" but I don't quite get that connection (well, kind of, but isn't that a stretch?) Is it a danger thing, a body thing, or what - This is obviously not a new theme but a recurring one: The half naked woman draped in a snake.

What's your opinion?

The snake is a phallic symbol. It means a large penis. What you have said is a really polite method of describing a good fuck.http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m21.gif

and dont forget in the 80's that poster of Nastassia Kinski wearing a burmese python and nothing else

I imagine that imagery could be associated with the story of The Garden of Eden, how Eve was seduced by the snake, then went on to seducing Adam.

For those with a possible dissonance between their sexual/kink lives and their religious beliefs, I can see where this type of imagery could be a seductive influence.

Otherwise, I have no clue. Snakes are cool and half-naked women are cool. Put both of them together and it's still cool. But then again, so is the imagery of a naked woman skiing down the side of a mountain or wearing an open parka in the middle of a snow covered forest.

Really, a half naked woman dancing with ANY THING can be construed as sexual imagery

I would tend to agree with this.  It is to represent temptation.

Brief note here, go back to Mesopotamia and the religions of the Near East.

Have to run, back on later.

There is a particular bar on Okinawa where such a question is answered onstage several times a night.

My opinion is that the girl who picked up the stack of quarters and gave change for $1 bills was much hotter.  I get half a woody to this day when I get change at the laundromat.

Oh I have always loved this photo/painting of Lilith, Adam's first wife that was banished from Eden because she refused to submit and lie beneath lie beneath him.   Plus, like LadyPact, Lockit and myself, she is a raven haired Goddess[;)].

lol. Great minds thinking alike!

DesFIP -> RE: Half naked women and very big snakes (1/12/2010 5:15:27 AM)

Aynne, I hate to debunk a cherished theory, but Lilith was not Adam's first wife. She was a goddess who was given offerings so she would not visit homes with SIDS. No idea where the folklore about her being Adam's wife comes from except not in the bible.

As for snake symbolism...

The tattoo I created for myself is an image of an Orphic Egg...a snake wrapped around an egg.  While the snake may have male/phallic meanings, it also is tied to rebirth and sexuality.  Because I'm a gemini and there's a duality in me, this image...snake/male, egg/female...made sense along with the other symbolic meanings attached to the design.

I don't see the snake as a representation of negativity, but then again I think Eve was smart for biting the apple [;)]

Hi, Aynne,

i've always thought "raven-haired" described women who had black hair.  Ravens (usually) being another name for the blackbird.
Or am i mistaken? [&:]

Oops, lol, sorry for the slight hijack. >.<
