I think that not having a picture on a profile makes people think the profile is fake.  I don't blame people for thinking that on CM because there ARE so many fake profiles here.

I don't have a picture on my profile for similar reasons as the OP.  Someone from the same city I used to live in recognized me and, without any kind of discretion, pointed me out in front of my company...no, they were not like minded folks...

Following discussion in another thread:

I was asked what my reasons were for not having a picture on my profile.

I did used to have a picture on an old account here, until a Dom I had never spoken to wrote to me to tell me that he had made it his screensaver. I found this unbearably creepy, so I removed it quick-sharp.

Does a profile without a picture put other people off? What might other people's reasons be for not having a pic?

I dont worry about it. Pictures do not prove a whole lot. some people use pictures from other people, some use picutres that are 5-10, even 20 years old or 50-100 pounds lighter. Reason not to, personal preference and privacy issues.

I wish I were out enough to put a full face pic up, but I am not.  I do have a pic of me wearing a collar that shows my chin and shoulders.  There are too many picture collectors out there for me to just put up a full photo.

Once, I was contacted by a sub who told me that a profile in Brazil (!) was using the same picture as me.  I have to credit the collarme admin people for taking it down once I proved that the photo was mine.

Does it make me unbearably perverted if I admit that I, for the first time, have a burning desire to know what you look like?

I've CMailed you.
Just promise me you won't use it as a screensaver

I'd never use a face shot - I'd lose my job and my career if I were 'outed'. I need 'plausible deniabiity'...lol

I prefer to chat on IM with prospective partners, and there's a 'nilla pic of me on there. I can also supply further pics if necessary, although I prefer to meet in person.

I do have a 'headless' body shot in my piccies on cm, but for some reason I got waaaay more messages once da bunny made its appearance...

I give benefit of the doubt, so to speak when it comes to picless profiles. People have their reasons, but I usually pass them by. That's just me though. I have talked to people with no pics, they seem nice lol

I have a pic up, and it seems to be working for me.

Heh heh heh.

Naw, in all seriousness, that's the sign of someone who literally has no friends.  If I made you my screensaver, someone would ask me, "Oh, is that your new girlfriend?"  Then I'd have some explaining to do.  I can understand why you were creeped out, but think for a minute about a person who would really do that.  No contact with women, except through pixels, and probably no contact with men except through work.  It actually makes me a little sad.

Not at all.  Some people have a music list up, some have an audio greeting.  It's just another way of communicating.

Well, my sister came on here and tried to turn my family against me.  That could be one.  Funny thing, though, she didn't have a pic up and had done the EXACT same thing I had done but didn't have the gumption to stand behind her own behavior.  I took my picture down after that because it was such a cruel thing to do, and I at least have scruples enough not to create drama with the family and say "well you did it too bucko!"

I figure it this way...  If she can try to turn my family from me, what the fuck other creepy, mean spirited thing would she do?  You just can't fix hate-filled people.

best,
sunshine

I don't think it really matters much for a girl. You're gonna get bombarded regardless.

In fact, if I were looking, I'd probably NOT have a pic up, even though that sounds counter-intuitive.

It is sad, but I guess that one of the risks you run on a site like this is occasionally coming across men who are here because they can't pull in real life...

I recently had to pull my profile picture because someone recognized me in a social setting and asked if I were "that" Pompeii.
I told them no way ... and I waited a couple of weeks and then pulled the picture. Too bad. But if someone needs to know me, they can always write as there's never any mail in collarme so it would get noticed and all they'd need to do is ask.

A profile without picture does not put me off but i am less inclined to respond or take interest. For me a picture speaks volumes as i focus as much on background and subliminal aspects as i do on the main subject matter. A profile with photo i feel absolute jumps out from the crowd and garners greater attention.

As a visually oriented male i have in past found myself entering servitude because a photo sparked interest and made sufficient impact upon me. This has happened a few times. At the opposite extreme a photo has also made so i lose potential interest. For example Dommes portraying middle finger extended typically does not spark deeper interest with me.

It is the content of a profile and what i perceive from reading between the lines and sense of karma it generates within me that is deciding factor. A photo is not necessary but i believe it important.

Always a piss-off when a photo is posted and then pilfered and used in ways not intended. Have no solution to that aspect although imbedding text in a photo may help to reduce some incidents. Content of photo may also reduce have effect.

On the upside, You are becoming more proficient with Photoshop

If you want to somehow cleverly disguise parts of you, so be it, but otherwise it does not speak to me as someone realistically and sensibly entering into this medium of socializing.

I don't have a profile picture. And I've realistically and sensibly met several people from this site and had some realistic and sensible fun.

I put a picture of my face on craigslist once, in connection with an ad looking for a (basically platonic) date to a specific event. About two dozen guys responded within an hour with variations of  "I have no interest in that event, but you're cute, let's chat/call me/etc." I think I'm an attractive person, but it's not like I'm all that. If a moderately attractive face pic (wearing fleece! and no makeup!) gets that kind of response on craigslist, I can only imagine the amount of noise that would result from tying it to kinky activities. I get enough nonsense mail without a pic. Also, I've had some lovely ongoing conversations here with men who have threadbare profiles. I understand that plenty of people sort via pic, but I'm not sure it's much of a loss from my perspective.

I suppose I should add that I don't have a pic because the site won't load one from my computer. I didn't start out making some principled stand against a profile photo. It just kind of happened and I haven't really felt any ill result.

I think there are a variety of reasons why people have or don't have pics on their profiles. I don't believe any one way is the right way. However... I don't assume just because there is a pic the person is any more authentic than the person that doesn't have a pic. In fact, some pics beg to question the authentic nature of the profile. In the end.... it's all rather subjective to the motivations of the individual

Creepy indeed. Though it would be more creepy if the person in question *didn't* have an actual pic of you and instead made a stick figure pic of you with your username and an arrow pointing to the stickman. Then i'd be a tad worried.

Actually I had something like that twice...some American woman was apparently using a facebook shot of me as her desktop and another had a pic on her cellphone. I didn't believe it till I actually saw the pics. Kind of creepy considering I only spoke to either of them two or three times.

I use a full pic cause I don't particularly care who sees me on here. If someone from work were to find it i'd ask then what they were doing here to find it in the first place

I removed my picture a year or so ago.  I  noticed a certain man was checking out my profile every other day for a couple months.  After I removed the picture he no longer looked at the profile.  Apparently he was looking at the profile to see the picture.  I found it all too creepy and so have never put another picture back.

I've got one of those blokes too, but I don't have a picture up at all...

Yuck....creepy!!!!
