When Lookie wakes up and catches up with this thread, hes gonna fart for sure.

When i was in clinicals, i saw the size of the HOSE that lovely camera is in, leaned down to the vict...erm...patient and whispered...i have a bit of pull around here, would you like me to see if we cant get you loaded up with some morphine before we start?

The real nurse gave me a reading assignment shortly thereafter.....spent the day in the filing room....*shrugs*....look, i was just tryin to help.

the last time Jim was at our PCP he was told he needed a colostomy. He hasn't been back since.

I got souvenir color pictures afterwards.... nothing like knowing what the inside of your squeaky clean colon looks like.

Maybe he can work out a deal. Knock him out once, and get the colostomy and the bone spur problem taken care of together.

I hope everything comes out ok for you.  [:D]

We can put a man on the moon but not find a way to make the colonoscopy prep tolerable.

I broke my colonoscopy cherry last spring. It's a rite of passage for men to let you know you're over the hump of middle age and descending.

However - no drinking for my prep. I was prescribed pills which had the same effect. In my case, the prep and the mental angst were much worse than the procedure. I think it was because of what I said to the anesthesiologist.

I had one minor surgery in the past. I came out of the anesthesia violently waving my arms and catching a poor nurse right in the gut knocking the wind out of her. Although groggy, I remember her being yelled at by the doctor for not tying down my hands. I told this story to the little anesthesiologist. She said she appreciated me telling her about that incident. The next thing I remember - it was the next day.

beth tells me that they came out and told her to go get the car and they would bring me out. she regretted not bringing a camera. she said that I came out of the building being pushed in a wheelchair. When I saw beth I was waving my underwear in my hand, (tighty red) to get her attention, shouting "Hi-I missed you!" to the amusement of both beth and the health-care worker. beth drove me home and didn't wake up until the next day.

In comparison, a couple of months earlier I took my 86 year old father to the same procedure in the same place. Afterward, we went out for breakfast and did a little shopping. I guess I'm just a 'wuss'!

From my experience, the only thing worse than the stuff you have to drink, is the horror of realizing that gorgeous, sexy beast of a man you just flirted with, is the doctor who is going to be shoving that camera up your ass.  Thank god, the drugs kicked in and knocked me out, immediately after I made that realization.

LOL No worries about that with my doctor. He is good, but I would not say a gorgeous, sexy beast of a man. Now, to have one of those shoving a.....nevermind.

LanceHughes -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 8:18:07 AM)

<<== Lance speaks as a Gay Leatherman. I do not remember ANY prep. I do remember a light, orally administered anesthetic with a warm fuzzy effect.  The procedure itself was, shall we say, pleasant.

Your mileage WILL vary.

Now to me, getting a picture of the internal shoot would have Jim determined to go.

Then the next time i informed him his head was up there, he could pull out the pictures and prove me wrong.

sorry Jim.

When my late husband had it done, he asked the nurse how come the doctor had to take a smoke break after he was done . [&:]

Some other things overheard while being in the office

LookieNoNookie -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 5:03:29 PM)

Interestingly, I discovered a little of my own mortality in the process.

I once heard "John Wayne died with 30 lbs of matter in his colon", and certainly I witnessed evidence of that yesterday in the prep process.

A lot of people would look to that experience (I, now being one of them) and say "Jeeeeez Louise.....what have I been putting into myself....cheeseburgers, white bread, all the things that don't properly digest....my GAWDDDD.....what have I been doing to myself....I need to learn from this and make permanent changes!".

And I most assuradly have. People told me this would be a life changing event....and they were right!

Why would any sane person allow that kind of garbage to remain in their system when clearly, now that I fully understand the possibilities.....you can eat all that and MORE....and then every few months drink that crappy stuff and flush it all out!?

(I think I need some cheesecake).

Better living through chemistry, I always say :)

Just saying, that's a myth about the Duke having a load left in him.

Glad you survived!

KatyLied -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 6:48:17 PM)

I had my colonoscopy last week.  I left with pictures of my innards, as if I can tell the difference between a normal colon and an icky one.  Evidently these docs are proud of their work.    [;)]   As someone who has had colon masses removed from her body, I applaud all of you who are doing the adult thing, because it does save lives.

KatyLied -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 7:04:24 PM)

I am done for 3 years!  But I will admit that coming down from twilight sleep is nice.

I did a gatorade prep and next time I will use crystal light because the gatorade made me puke.  bright orange.  yeck

Level -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 7:10:25 PM)

You know something? They did not put me under for mine. Now, this was several years ago, I had it done, due to stomach pains, but the fuckers gave me something to relax me, but that's all.

Gatorade prep? What's that, you put the nasty shit in a drink?

KatyLied -> RE: I learned some new things today... (1/13/2010 7:12:14 PM)

Yep.  64oz of gatorade + 3cups of laxative.  It's fucking gross. You drink 32oz can take an hour rest and drink the remainder.
