I may not be too fond of this guy's comedy style, but I definitely agree with his current viewpoint.

Conan's a class act in my book (for the way he handled this whole thing).

Leno should have stood back and said "Hey....I walked away....Conan has the big chair now....long live the King".

But he didn't. Low rent motherfucker.

Frankly, I never thought Conan was the right choice (but hey....they didn't call me).

Ain't a chance in hell now I'll ever be watching the new/old/new Tonight Show once Conan's gone.

He got robbed...and the guy who's taking it over has lost every ounce of respect I ever had for him.

Leno's goose is cooked.

NBC like most broadcast networks is fucked. It seems to me the best writing talent is working for cable where there is a more freedom. All the networks have is shit like the Tonight Show. They panicked and Leno is a dick.

Any move with the promise of removing Jay Leno from any possible time I am flipping thru the channels is good.

I am not a fan of Conan O'Brien but I commend him for taking a stand and he's absolutely correct. If they do move the Tonight Show from 11:30 to 12:00 it's no longer The Tonight Show. I grew up watching that with Johnny Carson every night with my dad. It became the show where I bonded with him. He would tell me to go to  bed and I'd sneak downstairs, he'd smile and let me come down and watch it with him on the couch until I fell asleep. Had it been on at midnight I have a feeling I would have missed that time with him and I think a lot of people around the country have those sentimental feelings about the show. It's the show that followed the news and how you ended your long day. It's become the 11:30 tradition to many in the US. Take that away to midnight and you take away a cultural icon.

They've already messed with that show enough. Leave it be already.

Conan did a good monologue last night:

quote:

Good evening. I'm Conan O'Brien, the new host of "Last Call with Carson Daly."

This weekend no one was seriously hurt, but a 6.5 earthquake hit California. The earthquake was so powerful that it knocked Jay Leno's show from 10 o'clock to 11:35

He's much funnier than Leno; NBC is fucking up even more.

Is it NBC that messed up and not Jay Leno? Who is calling the shots here?

I think Jay shouldn't have been let go. I also feel that Conan deserved a chance. Conan deserves the chance to make the Tonight show his own. Conan i never got into his kind of humor but I will say this i do not blame him for how he feels. Changing the Tonight show starting time would be a disaster.

I have heard that ratings aren't doing well with Conan at the helm. I do not know if that is true or not. I do not stay up to watch the show. I used to watch the beginning monalogue. Do i have preference over one host to another? No..it will be interesting to see what happens next and how those changes will affect a show that has been around for a long time..

When you really get down to the scope of things there are more important things in the world to worry about. Your family for one...

littlewonder -> RE: Conan O'Brien Standoff (1/12/2010 7:29:47 PM)

The problem is not the host but the time. NBC doesn't want Leno to  host The Tonight Show. They want to move it a half hour later and still allow Leno to have his own show at 11:30 instead of 10:00.  And then Fallon has to move his later as well.

If NBC does this they'll have 3 dead shows instead of one.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Conan O'Brien Standoff (1/12/2010 8:20:06 PM)

I kind of disagree with the problem is not with the host.

Johnnie Carson was one of a kind. David Letterman is the closest we've seen. The other two? Not even close imo.
There is no tonight show as far as I'm concerned, and hasn't been since Johnnie.

I'd rather watch reruns of Johnnie than new shows with either one of them personally.

I do respect Conan for taking a stand. Problem is, he's just not clever/entertaining/charming enough to fill Johnnie's shoes. (sorry, Leno, is not even an issue with me)

breatheasone -> RE: Conan O'Brien Standoff (1/12/2010 8:31:03 PM)

i think Conan is a class act, and handling himself just that way. i am kinda surprised Jay Leno isn't taking the high road here...Since he was SO vocal about how messy it was when HE took over for Carson all those years ago!
