At the top: A few things that tend to go together: Confidence that is felt and expressed without all that ego stuff. Someone who actually cares about people and can lead with logic and an open mind. Someone who can laugh at themself, before they can laugh at another. Someone who doesn't give in to being a victim of life, but a challenger in life. Someone who respects others as much as he respects himself, in being different.

At the bottom of my list would be their status in life. doesnt mean a thing to me, if they don't have what is at the top.

Top:   the "presence".   Without that, there is nothing else to  a Master  worth getting to know.

Bottom:   which way He likes the toilet paper to come off the roll.

one cares  about everything in between at the same level because they are all His preference, even if they seem to have a different spot on the Importance list.    If it didn't make the list, it's something one really doesn't care about enough as to give an opinion.

would that include leaving the seat up?

isn't wanting you impeccable taste?

life is about judging things, it's how we make sense of the world

we judge on the basis of good/bad and better/worse even animals make judgements about things ie which mate will be the better choice, which food tastes better etc

You're arguing with my list?  You asked the question.  I answered.  It's a shame my list is not acceptable to you as-is, but that is my list.

Thank you Cali, for really making me think more about this!

I used to have a checklist of 'essentials' in a partner. Several years ago I met a guy who ticked very few of those boxes. He was 'wrong' in almost every area. And yet in the years we had together, I loved him with a passion I wasn't aware I was capable of. And he loved me too, even though I didn't match his 'ideals' either. Sometimes there's just a connection that defies logic.

Now that I'm considering going out there and looking again, I think I need to re-evaluate how I go about it.

Top of my list: A mutual enjoyment of our time together on an ongoing basis. That feeling when you're sorry to see a man go and happy to see him return; when you can actually can see yourselves spending your life together, that is the most important thing between me and another.

Bottom of my list: material wealth. I really don't care if he's rich or poor as long as he's the right guy. In fact, a guy trying to impress me with his money is a big turn off ( And if I could be bought that way, I'd be with that German guy with a castle and a yacht in the Adriatic, thank you - I'm not impressed by two SUV's and a McMansion ).

Top of the list: a feminist who believes in equal rights for gays/lesbians (and everyone else), who is seriously disturbed by puppy mills and takes others' tribulations seriously.

Bottom of the list: Favorite sport.

Lists are restrictive and lead to unrealistic expectations that do not allow submission to flow free.

What's funny, myo, is that I do have a list of qualities that I look for in a person, on my profile.  Most of them I never would have thought to "say out loud", before my ex-husband.  If nothing else, he showed me so many things that I am NOT willing to accept in a person.  But it's not a ranked list... it's more of a "this is how I think, and this is how I operate, and if you think in a similar manner, we're going to have a better shot at it" sort of thing.

Cali

Yes, that includes leaving the seat up...lol...but it's at about the same level of Importance as the paper roll.  It IS on the list, however, because it means it's something to care about (ie, look before sitting!).
