Sunstein was appointed by President Obama to head up the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, an agency within the Executive Office of the President. On page 14 of Sunstein’s January 2008 white paper entitled “Conspiracy Theories,” the man who is now Obama’s head of information technology in the White House proposed that each of the following measures “will have a place under imaginable conditions” according to the strategy detailed in the essay. 1) Government might ban conspiracy theorizing. 2) Government might impose some kind of tax, financial or otherwise, on those who disseminate such theories. That’s right, Obama’s information czar wants to tax or ban outright, as in make illegal, political opinions that the government doesn’t approve of. To where would this be extended? A tax or a shut down order on newspapers that print stories critical of our illustrious leaders?

About time Now ingenious people can find other things to occupy their lives with. I mean what good ever come from any conspiracy ranging from the sinking of the Britannic to H1N1? They wouldn't allow this in China and look at how much more productive they are!

You mean corporations will still be able to create containers that look bigger on the outside than the reality of the inside. I noticed also that Pantene Pro V works just as well when used as a shower gel but people would have me believe I should only use it on my hair. Long ago I discovered their lies and now my body is revitalised in the same way as my hair and I never get old and will live for ever. Obviously I have to also occasionally drink the stuff to ensure I am just as healthy on the inside.

Well... After inspecting the contents of your rubbish receptacle I noticed you had an inordinately large number of empty shampoo containers. I compared this number with the average number of shower gel containers an average household throws out and as they say...ipso facto quod erat demonstrandum.

Considering some of the theories that have been shouted from the roof tops, I would hope someone would come up with a way to shut some of these lunatics up. The fall into the category I call the terminally stupid. An example of the terminally stupid are people that would go jogging in an area frequented by large carnivorous cats such as mountain lions who look at creatures running as PREY items. The average mountain lion sees something running and thinks "FOOD." They dont care if the food item only has two legs.

This is why I usually disregard prisonplanet in particular, and conspiracy sites in general... Hunk, there are a lot of lies in that article, especially the references to censoring talk about global warming, Oswald, the "sunlight prevents some cancers" (there's a lot more to the story), Holocaust deniers, rewriting the First Amendment, and "celebrating tax day" (which is not in the paper, but it's in Wikipedia). Everything else was taken out of context. You can see the paper here, using the Scribd window. It's a lot more information, and explains the advantages and disadvantages of all the approaches (and there were a lot of disadvantages with infiltration). Taxation was ruled out early. For the remark about censorship on page 21 of the paper. It's seen as generally unnecessary in an open society, and self defeating - even serving to reinforce the conspiracy theory. Similar points were raised about infiltrating groups, whether the government agents identified themselves, or were anonymous. They said that the hard core wouldn't be convinced of anything anyways, and it could simply spawn even more conspiracies. I think the idea of infiltration wouldn't get much mileage due to the poor results of these activities in the past; the paper gives a lot of examples of different ways to counter conspiracies. In general, white papers are like thought exercises - you come up with a lot of possibilities, and ways to deal with them. They can also be astoundingly impractical in the real world. This last line from the prisonplanet article is bullshit: "That is why they are now engaging in full on information warfare in an effort to undermine, disrupt and eventually outlaw organized peaceful resistance to their growing tyranny" Damn, guys, it was a white paper. It's not policy.

Lets figure there are anywhere from 20 to 200,000 people who spend their lives on planning new ways for the government to gain more power- and or more money. Next consider that we now - the past 10 years- we reward failure- as a matter of public policy. When you reward something- you get more of it. One then must consider incremental-ism. Bit by bit- we morph into a world that is less recognizable. Even in the time my father has been dead- if he was here- I can picture trying to explain to him all the changes since 1986. Next- we have corporations writing the laws- which congress does not read prior to voting on them. We have k street lobbyists- more per capita then at any other time in our history. We have 6 mega media controllers now- down from 50 in just 1980. All the networks news is the same. Almost word for word. Bush sent over talking points- and Obama does the same. More and more laws- rules- regulations apply to you and I, but not the elite. The more laws we get- the more this will gap- I have not heard any convincing argument FOR the status quo. Everything has changed the day we got TARP. Just because the full effects of this depression has not shown- does not mean it wont happen. Even as I type this the govt is scheming to take your 401k- and likely they will succeed. So- ok- housing- trashed- jobs -trashed- and -- 401k - about to be trashed. If you are among those who are too stupid to know they been robbed- then- don't blame me when you are in a FEMA camp. living in a cardboard box under a viaduct- - which could very well be in your future- you cant say I did not try to tell you so. hunk, hun, once again you have gone off on a tangent and totally off thread. we were discussing controlling what is said over the net... and i merely pointed out that the man who you are complaining about is in an advisory postion only. as far as FEMA, until Bush got his hands on it, it was one of the best run agencies around.

.....but things do go right back to the money changers. grandparents would know about that. people in other countries know about it. the money system is a lie. so anyone who then wont go along with it- to be conspiracy. as power gets more centralized- the more top heavy it gets. Such power needs funds to operate. well this could be a white paper- consider how many executive orders there have been in the last 10 years. An executive order does not comply with checks and balances of the 3 branches. Money is not even money. It is paper or digits on a computer screen. There pretty much is no such thing as a terrorist. Only men that have had their wealth- something of value swindled away.
