Kudos, I suppose, to all those who are donating to Haitian relief. I'm sure the armed gangs who will be hijacking the trucks so they can sell what they steal will appreciate it. I'll be doing my semi-annual cleanout of the pantry and taking a few boxes of food down to our local resource center tomorrow, along with a couple packages of warm socks I found on sale. Local agencies always take it in the shorts when everybody is focused on someplace far away.

However, unlike you I cannot sit idly by knowing that there are armed gangs out there going hungry. Anyways, who is all that afraid of unarmed gangs? One of the perks about being in a gang is the whole "armed" part. Is there a way to send food to Haiti that would go directly to the armed gangs without them having to further tax their emiciated bodies by being forced to hijack them? I am worried fucking sick. A gang is a horrible thing to waste.

Like the homeless dont get robbed on our streets even in shelters, beaten up and disapear... does that make you stop donating?? Hookers get beaten daily, women and children too, and men...does that mean you got to stop donating or doing what you can to help??? I know I get cynical and snarky but being snarky about your efforts being better than what others give is just weird. Kudos tho for rising above it all I supppose

It is possible to give to more than one cause but human beings are human beings. The value of life is not measured by geographic location or nationality. I don't think anyone was asking "Please give to Haiti while ignoring your own people." but rather "Please help the human beings in Haiti who are suffering beyond belief." Not "better," Lucy, but I can be a lot more confident about about where what I can do is going to go. I don't doubt that these organizations are going to do the best they can, and food stolen and sold to the starving is still food going into the crisis. I just like knowing the guy who is going to pass it out. Cynical? Me??? PALMDALE - A shopper at a Palmdale grocery store was shocked to see a picture of her two daughters next to a sign and a collection box asking for donations to pay for their funerals, prompting the arrest of a man who admitted to the scam, authorities said today. What I would like to know where are a major portions of these who donate mass ammounts of money when disasters happen in other countried but wont stop to do the same in their own. I have the charity that I donate to as well as my family in support for better medications and hopefully one day a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

All politics is local. I have my own problems. If I cared too much about everything on tv there would be no me. I dont "owe" anyone to watch TV- or even know that somewhere else has an earthquake. I don't pay $63 a month to watch endless commercials and sound booms into MY home. Add to that crappy programming and news which is NLP- nothing more. We live in a giant corporation- and this earthquake is nothing more then clean up in isle 3. Those people will be forgotten very fast- they have your heart only until the next news event... most of which is planned for you. I man on the other board- sends real life soccer balls to Africa to the kids in a village. That man has a heart. I would do that- before I would donate to this flavor of the day- shallow image of caring. We do not give a fuck about those people- so I see no point in faking it.
