Status: offline 		This article caught my eye because there was a recent case of skimming at a local gas station and one of the customers where I work had several thousand dollars removed from her bank account.  She was able to work with her bank to remove the charges but it was a highly stressful situation and took several weeks and numerous phone calls to fix.

If you ever want to dis-able on RFID - zap it in the microwave abit.

also has some interesting info

I have a reloadable mastercard, I only load it when I know I have to make some purchases and only load it with that amount plus a few bucks extra.
My reg bank account debit card rarely gets used

Status: offline 		I just went through something like this. I used a card to pay a bill by phone and one online. Within three days as far as I can tell... someone was online playing with my card. I didn't give my pin... but still they tried. I don't know if it was that they caught it with the lack of a pin or that the fraud unit knew my spending habits and knew I wouldn't buy over five hundred dollars worth of tennis shoes... like before when it happened and someone was looking for a China bride with my other card... They saved me both times.

Ok- I am thinking my current set up is best.

I have a small visa card- secured by my one money.  The interest is around $3 a month.

the secured visa is held by $300.   yet- the savings account interest- and the credit card interest is around $3 a month.  No charge to pay it down.

Status: offline 		Businesses which rely on swipe technology (such as Redbox, which dispenses movies), have added blocks around the swipe part on their machines, in order to make it difficult for someone to add a skimmer.

I can see it now.  Pressing the brake on a car- the light lights up- Error 404 -  user unknown.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the links everyone, my daughter told me this evening that her atm card had been slimed this morning at 4am to the tune of 400$
They have opened an investigation and will take a few weeks.
Ive sent her all the links you ladies provided so thanks from us both

You go to the grocery store. Your bill is $37.55. You hand the cashiers a fifty dollar bill. She rings it up and starts handing you your change. Without a computer (no amt tendered) she figures out your change. She might hand you two dimes and a quarter and say "38". She will then give you two ones and say "40". Then a ten and say "50".

Sorry to interupt, but I just had to sat that. It worked for 50 or 100 years, and she was accurate, because at the end of the day she was responsible for that money.

Oops, that Rword again.
