Insurance companies have no agenda other than protecting themselves, they are neither liberal or conservative, but simply eager to predict future losses.

(NYTimes) – A major trade group for the insurance industry is warning that it is “exceedingly risky” for companies to blindly accept scientific conclusions around climate change, given the “serious questions” around the extent to which humans cause atmospheric warming. EVAN LEHMANN
NY Times
Friday, January 15th, 2010
The assertion was made in a letter (pdf) to insurance regulators, who will administer the nation’s first mandatory climate requirements on corporations in May. Large insurers will have to answer about a dozen questions related to the preparations they are taking to safeguard themselves from climatic hazards. The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies believes that the new regulation leaves little room for companies to cast doubt on widely accepted assumptions about global warming. Insurers are hamstrung to provide answers that dovetail with the perception of key regulators who believe climate change threatens the industry’s financial strength, said Robert Detlefsen, the group’s vice president of policy. “It’s fairly obvious that certain regulators have made up their minds about what the answers to those questions are, and are just proceeding on the assumption that their answers, or the ones that they subscribe to, are correct and unimpeachable,” Detlefsen said in an interview. “There really is no room, as I see it, for any sort of legitimate, in their minds at least, for legitimate dissent.” Full article here

Ah. The red herring. A favorite of those who don't like it when people ask to look at how conclusions are reached.

Not to mention ad hominem, here along with straw man. You know nothing of me or my home--doesn't stop you from making conclusions based on nothing.

It's exactly my point. You decide what you think, and then look at "evidence," taking what suits, ignoring or dismissing what doesn't. The evidence itself and what it does or doesn't show is irrelevant to you.

That's a problem for meaningful discourse, not to mention actually evaluating and addressing issues reasonably.

So tell me- how many kilowatts you use a month- how many cubic feet of gas and so on.

What is that number prior to your big gift to humanity by cutting back?

You said there is a problem- talk is cheap DO SOMETHING.  You are wasteful. You are using un-necessary electric as I speak.  You have stuff plugged in- pulling power in sleep mode.

Thus far - your use should have declined 28% from 2009- to 2010- based on PPL electric prices.

You are so fucking full of shit. Which is the problem I pointed out, not the one you made up.

Red herring? You should get a special red herring award! Remember the OP? Remember science and methodology? Are you in there? Can paboy come out?

Since you obviously must change the subject, as you're clearly unable and unwilling to support your points--

When bills climb, dude, make changes. It's called economics.

I use less than half the fuel oil I did before prices soared. I use a third of the electricity--a third. A few hundred dollars of insulation and a few sensible habit changes was all it took. I drive a car that gets 40 mpg because I drive a lot and it adds up. I started my orchards and gardens a few years ago when I could have started them a few decades ago because the higher prices created incentive to take the time and effort to do so.

Now you go do something other than scream and rant.

Poor baby.

Music, you have orchards? Cool.
I don't know about driving a car that gets 40 mpg though. It can't be that comfortable can it?
Just the two "Bridge of Weir" Scottish leather heated and cooled seats in the front of the Lincoln go for about $3,500 each if you had to replace them and they're exquisite to sit in, firm yet plush. Full powered lumbar. And all the other bells and whistles. I'm spoiled as shit now!
But, I get about 22 mpg around town and 27 on the highway with a 3.7 litre six cyl that has 275 horses.
PaHunk, I have to turn the heat up to 80, it's getting chilly out!

Hey! Maybe someone should start a thread about cars making a "political statement" about their driver.

Yup--varieties of apple, cherry, plum, peach, apricot, pear, walnut, almond, pecan, and hazelnut. I also have grapes, kiwi, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, along with veggie gardens and a greenhouse. I grow dwarf orange and grapefruit indoors. It IS way cool.

I'm cheap when it comes to cars. I can't see throwing money into something that depreciates so quickly--there are better uses for those funds. But that's just me.

It'll do!

This entire farce is starting to look more like a Monty Python production than a serious scientific investigation. It would seem the only "retreating" going on, is the global warming crowd from more and more of their "assertions".

Why continue to push this trash? There is nothing wrong with advancing technology on the basis of it being a good investment for our grandkids - instead of saddling them with needless trillions of debt in pursuit of politically-motivated goals - a  part of it related ot this junk science.

My own company is doing something positive in that regard through R&D we are funding internally...not asking the government and you to pay for it through junk science and scare tactics. I believe we have a good idea that will save fuel and emissions and so I pay to grow the idea - not you. If  I'm right - hooray for me - I make money. I then have to go out and sell this idea to people who have a choice whether to believe in my product. If I'm wrong, any losses and the the responsibility for any loss is mine and mine alone, as it should be.

The global warming farce did one good thing....it caused us to see we can innovate and do things better and we can advance the technology far enough to make an impact - but from there the execution of it should be by choice - not by decrees made by politicians who jumped on a bandwagon whose tires were nearly flat to start with.

So  given the fact that none of this new technology is truly NEEDED....it will sell or not sell - live or die -  based on the free marketplace. I'm putting my own money where my mouth is. I'm spending the money to come up with a better solution to one part of the question - not trying to scare people into believing something as a way to extort political gain.

You should hear the ads running here in MA as they try desperately to save Martha Coakley's rapidly sinking ship. It's like global warming all over again.....I've never seen such hilarious panic....and all they are doing is turning more people against themselves. Her poll numbers went down after the Obama visit...lol. ...what does THAT tell you?

I'm sorry...I had to :)

Popeye.  You are one who can see how the UN is bent on abolishing private property.

I love when you use your stuff.   I denies the UN from hoarding it for Al Gore-ites.

Use all the power you want.   :-)

Music, that's neat! When I lived in New Hampshire I had 9 high bush blueberry bushes that I'd get about 70-80 pounds of blueberrys from each August. raspberry bushes and two pear and four apple trees. And the blueberrys were *huge!*

PaHunk, oh hell yeah, my "carbon footprint is HUGE!
And screw the "U.N."
I was reading somewhere that after Clinton left office the "U.N." had "ammassed" a pension fund of $30 Billion that they didn't have before.
The congress never appropriated any funds for a pension fund for the "U.N."
So where did that money come from?
Was it stolen or misappropriated?

So, what does this mean exactly, when it comes to the story, and the data in the story itself?

Or did you just want to make a semi-personal attack, and decided this was a way to sneak it under the radar?

Well, the conservatives call YahooNews a "bastion of liberalism."

I can hear the zombies now; "Oh! Well,.........all we need do is to make some..... "adjustments"..... to those figures."

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise you were a yahoo shareholder, semi personal attacks? What are you on?

It was humour in relation to the way popeye said "Wow! This is on YahooNews now." As if that trumps the original Times Online article.

It in truth was just an attempt on his part to recycle it. The thing people, such as yourself, aren’t willing to admit is that the e-mail scandal and this latest story are just tiny pieces of the overall picture and people should stop throwing up their arms in the air, feigning outrage, every time a story of this nature appears. It’s good it proves scrutiny, it should give you more confidence about other areas of the science as yet not unproven and where real trend evidence was used.

SL4, nah,... I just think it's funny that the global warming zombie's "CO2" theory is being shot to pieces and in the liberal News Media now too.
Get ready for "CO3" soon!
And now they're trying to call it "Climate Change" instead of "Global Warming."
This sounds like "P.R. damage control" not science.
The "Climate" changes,...no shit?

Take a look at the disappearing ice...

http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/science/topics/globalwarming/index.html

It's all a fraud so people like you will have something to talk about.

They "photo shopped" the disappearing arctic ice.

Idiots.

They've called it climate change for quite a while now, most likely to stop those simplistic naysayers that look for year on year temperature increases.

Remember that unrealistic film "The day after tomorrow?" People back then were worried about the shutting down of the transatlantic conveyor belt caused by a whole load of freshwater being dumped into the sea.

Global warming is the mechanism that leads to climate change.

actually the Story being on Yahoo news does trump the Times online. It will be seen by tens of millions of more people now. Yahoo news isnt a journal.. Its a portal, where stories from dozens of media outlets are shown. And they always credit where the story is from, AP, Air America, CNN, Times online, the Nation, ect.

Indeed Domiguy, just last week i saw a photo of the bear speeding across the ice in his 4x4. I think its all his fault.
