Does your local BDSM group ever host fundraisers for charities? If so, has it been successful? I have seen some of our local groups host fundraisers for Breast Cancer. There have also been several events to raise money for individuals who have serious medical issues arise. Sir and I run a local munch/play party group and we have asked our group to make a commitment to local domestic violence shelters. We simply asked that people bring a donation (if they could) along with them to our munches and parties. We contacted the shelter to find out what types of items were needed and I posted that list on our group. We started about 3 months ago and so far it has been a huge success. We have raised several hundred dollars and I have taken two full truckloads of donations to the shelter. We have even had a few other local groups jump on the bandwagon in support. The plan in the long term is to build a relationship with the shelter that will hopefully lead to a better understanding about WIITWD and the differences between that and abuse. As a group, we can make a powerful impact. Just wondering if there are others out there who utilize the power of their groups?

What a great idea!!! I haven't seen anything like that happening at the munches we attend, but it would make a great suggestion.

Yes, I've been a part of several groups that have done various drives for a number of causes over the years. The Shriner's, Breast Cancer research, NLAF, and others. I've also participated in unique organized events (spa days, auctions, etc.) that were specifically set up as charity events for various worthwhile causes.

As I don't really interact with the local "groups" here, I can't say for sure. However, I personally volunteer at a non profit thrift store whose proceeds go to the Utah People Living With Aids Coalition (UPAC), and do fund raisers online in Second Life to benefit Utah Aids Foundation (UAF), and work with getting volunteers up at the local V.A. Hospital here, which is how I started out and got a job there. M. and I are also looking into starting a volunteer class at the U.A.F. here, teaching low cost, low effort, healthy cooking to people who are HIV / aids positive.

This is a great idea, Erin. I don't particularly hang with any such group at the moment, but I do what I can, charity-wise. I just did my own little personal coat drive last month - collected 43 coats that I donated to a local group serving the homeless. I also donate a LOTof items to WEAVE (Women Escaping A Violent Environment) - both my own and items I collect from others. WEAVE was good to me when I needed them, so they hold a special place with me. It really takes very little effort to do this. Tying in the difference between what we do versus actual abuse is wonderful. Kudos to you!

I offer a discount for my sevices as ProDomme on my website and most of my clients participate. I support a Battered Women's & Children center here in Atlanta GA

The profits from my forthcoming film and stage play 'Switch' is going to my own charity which works against social stigma, social exclusion which at the moment means helping the homeless in London and I'm working with the people who run LAM (the London Alternative Market). I'm planning to start the second phase of this project in Toronto next year which will in part be financed by the Shriners and I'm currently trying to get our government and the British Council to give their support.
