Would you be a hero for humanity?

If so- how?

What would you do?

Is humanity too dumb to realize what a heroic action would be?

Does humanity deserve a hero?

This of course goes with choosing your battles carefully.

What would you choose and why?

I know my kindeys are healthy along with my heart, so I would be able to donate that at my death. In fact, I am registered at the donation center for that (I think my liver is okay too, along with my lungs).

to me, the gift of organ donation is the highest gift one can use to be considered for humanity.

I think the better question is, if you could do something heroic that nobody knew about would you?

Your question seems to imply the person dying has to find a way of making the remainder of their life meaningful and we all face that problem regardless of how much longer we have to live. Say you have thirty years left what are you going to do? The tragedy is that people kill themselves and others in the name of heroism. They are prepared to wipe all pieces off of the board in the name of god but never question the purpose of being placed on the board with these other pieces in the first place. This is why I think the doomsday clock is closer to midnight now because in the past the two sides may have hated each other but at least they had their own visions of how to create a better existence on earth. It has gone beyond this attempt to change the world, instead players now attempt to save their spiritual lives and consider their earth bound existence only a test.

Depends who the society idolises, they get the heroes they deserve. i.e. it may be they worship rock stars or reality TV stars so that is the heroes they deserve. Let take this theory in reverse.

A high ranking official sees wrong doing- maybe even people being killed in a war zone.  (pick one) yet- says nothing out of fear for his career and harm to his family.

I have thought about this from time to time. Going out in a blaze of glory, but where ? Ideally such an action would make the government fear the People, but that's not likely. So what are the choices, open up on AIG or Gold Sacks ? You're not likely to get to the MFs who ruined the economy, all you get is a bunch of people who work for them. This is not right. The lack of a clear target is daunting to say the least.

And the blaze of glory is not the only way. Pull a burning baby out of a fire ? Act as a human shield (people really did this in Iraq, US citizens in fact). Expose myself to pathogens or poison to save another ? What's left ? I don't have enough money to make a dent in any of the world's major problems.

But why the negativity ? I have knowledge on how to turn everyday items into weapons, and some of it goes way beyond the real Anarchist's Cookbook, let alone the watered down versions on the net, of which IIRC I have three.

How about - you have no family, no repercussions, no thanks, no death approaching - would you still be heroric?  Conditions make it easier or harder?  Then it's hardly 'heroric'.

Status: offline 		I have that movie on my main PC, maybe I'll give it another look. The problem with me and movies is that I now refuse to commit them to memory. I think I've seen it, but all I can tell you is that I think it was about car racing. I know I still have it becasue I don't delete anything unless it doesn't work. I just keep buying bigger and bigger harddrives.

But a good point brought up here is; if you know you're going to die anyway, is anything you do able to be considered heroic ?

That is a very good question.

Status: offline 		I would try my best to lessen the fear of dieing for my loved ones. By dieing with dignity and trying to hide the personal fear I felt.

Telling them I am ready to go and my only regrets will be missing them as they are missing me. Convincing them it is the journey to death that is important not death itself.

It is a waste of time to fear death because we will either awake in heaven with joy at meeting those passed or we will just cease to exist with no knowledge that we even died. So there is no pain in death itself it is only if we have the strength to get to that very moment with courage…I hope I have it.

Status: offline 		If I had six months to live yes I would try and do something to change things for the better for people who are going to be living longer than me.

But I would be doing something which makes their life better.

Whether or not that makes me a hero is beside the point and meaningless to me.

But then again I believe I've got much longer left to live, and this is the way I'm living right now.

I do things in life to make people happy and to help them as much as I can, not to massage my own ego.

Status: offline 		If I had 6 months to live I would be spending each and every day making sure that my loved ones know how much I love them, spending as much time as I can with them and making sure they are well cared for after I am gone.

I would continue to do things for people just like I do now because it's the right thing to do as human beings at least by my morals. I never see it as being heroic but simply living by my standards, morals, values.
