asianallure -> Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 12:11:25 AM)

Assuming kinky people are somewhat of a minority, I was interested it hear other people's thought on whether they felt they (or the typical kinkster) were atypical in other ways as well.  I, for instance, have always felt rather abnormal.  Some might say the oddest thing about me is I don't have a TV in my home.  I also enjoy mismatched dishes and still play on the monkey bars.  I have met all sort of people from one who had unusual uses for squash to ones with a large from collection.

I disagree. I say everyone's kinky, but it's whether they are aware of it or not, admit to it or not or accept it or not, that is what makes the difference.

Kinky people are not a minority, let alone somewhat in my opinion. There is no typical kinkster either.

I, for one am unique ... just like everyone else [:D].

I'd rather be odd than feel the need to be even ... kinda grinds folk down tyrin' to be even if you ask me.

You could take any person in the world and find something that made them 'odd'.

Just because you can find other quirks in kinky people doesn't make them any more 'different' than non-kinky people.

DemonKia -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 1:54:58 AM)

I suspect the consensus you'll get, OP, is that 'no, there's no difference other than being kinky' . . . ..

While tending to agree with Stella about BDSM being stuff that's in all of us & gets drawn out in our myriad ways, I do kinda suspect that 'kink' may be proxy for some level of 'creativity' but note that I entirely stay out of the discussion of comparisons of these attributes with the 'non-kinky' population . . . . .

overfiend -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 3:35:39 AM)

IF YOU HAVE TO FIND A DIFFERENCE, I would say the only real difference is through lifestyle I personally have built up the actions of nt caring what other people think. Acting on my desires, I have no problem telling people exactly what odd little dreams I have. Does that mean other people don't do kinky things or have kinky thoughts I don't believe that. Conformaty is a learned behavior and is only a mask for ones true kink. Some of us get walked on a chain on a daily and others pay people to come in their home and crap on their chest and yet even more are still very oldfashioned and BELIEVE they are not supposed to think these things, so they push the thoughts down within. Aka the cookie cutters, its a sad fact that fear is the only real difference.

Most that I've met have had a third nipple.

Yep, normal is what a person is - until you get to know them.

Personally, I tend to agree that kinky people are the minority.  That's the end of the commonality right there.  We're no more 'odd' or 'unique' than any other cross section of society.  We have just as many people with other abnormal interests as any other group, such as folks who enjoy quilting or skydiving or any other bunch of people who have one particular trait or hobby in common.  We're not anything more or less than any other slice of the human population.

KatyLied -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 5:42:21 AM)

I do not know if kinky people are in the minority or if it is just something that a lot of people do not discuss, making it difficult to know the numbers.  I view kink along a spectrum, going from not at all kinky to no holds barred kinky.  I don't think being kinky makes you "different", at least not in the things that I value.

RedMagic1 -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 6:42:27 AM)

I don't own a television either.  It makes for humorous conversations.  A friend last night was telling me she had to have "the talk" with her daughter, because her daughter's friend, at the age of eight, was allowed to watch "Sex in the City."  I had to ask my friend to explain the connections.  (Yes, I know what Sarah Jessica Parker looks like, you teasepeople.)

I have definitely felt isolated and alone because of my kink.  I don't know if I felt any more alone than anyone else who goes through periods of "no one understands me" for non-kinky reasons.

Dominasola -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 7:37:32 AM)

I would suggest that those who are kinky and perceive themselves to be "different" find other aspects of themselves that are "different" than non-kinky people. They become aware of their own quirks in relation to what is "socially acceptable" more easily than those who don't see themselves as being secluded because of their orientations.

goober -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 7:58:48 AM)

Yes, kinky people have two heads, are all left-leaning.

All people possess the capability to be "kinky". Smacking someone's bottom / handcuffing in fluffy handcuffs may be VERY kinky for one person, but not another. It's all relative. And, who cares what one person thinks about me. I did when I was younger, but not now. I am, me.

I know I'm new and all, but, troll right?

pompeii -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 8:45:37 AM)

Interestingly, most of we kinksters (not me, mind you) are Myers-Briggs "Introverted" "Judging" ... which I find interesting (by way of contrast, I'm "Extroverted" "Perceptive". (see the thread for what those terms mean 'cuz they might not mean to you what they mean in this context).

DarkSteven -> RE: Are kinky people different in other ways? (1/20/2010 5:08:36 PM)

I heard a study that said that the people who are aware of their kink tend to be more intelligent and aware than vanillas.

Great!  Now some nimrod will be using this statement next week to start one of the 'kinky people are more intelligent than vanilla' threads and base their theory because they read it on the internet.
