For me, the ownership/property dynamic is rooted mostly in the need to feel like there is one person in the whole wide world that i can trust myself completely to. A good master/owner needs to be a able to identify the needs of his girl, and ensure they are met... whereas on the outside it may look like a very one-sided relationship, where the property serves the owner, in fact, the owner is probably serving her 10x fold by ensuring her trust in him is well placed... a huge responsibility.

I own him, I control him and yet I give him enough freedom to flourish and grow. It would be the same if I owned a woman. s/he would be my property and yet they would be an extension of me. I take care of my property, as I do everything else that I own.

Oh and BTW, most freedom loving women aren't going to go stand and giggle no matter how much you tell them too. Most are to intelligent for that, although they may point and laugh at you.

FR~

when we got married, when i signed the certificate i most romantically felt that he owned my ass officially... and then a second later as i watched him sign, i very securely felt that i owned his ass too.

To us it means that we are supposed to be the most important people in eachothers life and that no matter what happens, we stick together and make the best of it.

I've heard some say they felt marriage was detrimental to their m/s dynamic

yeah well, i hear all sorts of stuff said, i only know what works for me and my Husband...
For some people marriage seems detrimental to their love for eachother... or love might be detrimental to their M/s relationship...

an unofficial collaring ceremony with Master/slave contract would never hold the same powers for me as our marriage certificate does (though it might be a fun scene, especially if He would then publicly mark me as His...)
and a mere spoken promise is broken too easily in my opinion...
There has been a time when i might even have left him if we would not have been legally bound...

Also even though i am submissive towards Him, i do not feel any less important or less worthy... we are equal ( i think He  might disagree on that though haha)

i wasn't commenting on your situation

there was one striking example where she said she would like to get a divorce so she could go back concentrating on just being his slave but it was a legal hassle to do so

very weird, for me being married to the man does not really get in the way of serving him at all... i mean it is not like the actual being married takes up any time or effort, it just is a status.

Oh what a bummer for her, well she doesn't have to take all these rights...
personally i would tell her to stop moaning and show a bit of gratitude instead... or else

I always consider it in the terms of the collaquial phrase "I own your ass now", meaning that someone has a hold on you that when they tell you to do something you are going to do it no matter what. Most times it is a very negative thing, blackmail, bribery... in my relationship it is positive and healthy. Who he is has such an impact on me that when he tells me to do something I am going to do it.

I don't see it in the terms of owning property like a house or car. I also don't even see it in terms of owning a pet like a cat or a dog. I own several cats and I can guarantee that they will not be as obedient to me as I am to him. The alpha cat in our house is a 16-17 lb siamese cat that is all lean muscle and stands knee height to me. I have raised him since he was three weeks old and he sees me as his mom, but he sees himself as my boss. I don't own him in the same way that I am owned in my relationship. They are something completely and totally different.

he doesn't own her until she wants him to own her and that may not always be a conscious decision on her part

Power exchange. She loves me and trusts me enough to give me the right to decide what is what in her life. Of course, this means occasional (frequent) "it's good to be king" moments where I abuse her for my own pleasure. and yet, afterwards, she looks up at me with these giant, happy eyes saying "I'm so glad to be used by you" which just melts me. Quite a good feeling. It's powerful, to me, when we both have an understanding that I am in control of the both of us, but I won't lead her astray. She gives me her trust, absolutely, and I won't betray it. It's intoxicating and supremely powerful

don't forget he has to understand you

i think understanding her is the key to ownership

and real ownership doesn't start the moment the relationship begins

Whenever I see the word "real" prefacing some D/s concept the kaxon on my jackass detector goes into overdrive.

There is no useful general definition of  "Real Ownership" - not least because as a matter of fact "real ownership" of another person has absolutely no standing in western democracies and nearly all of the rest of the world as well.

That isn't to say that people who identify as owned or as owners aren't engaged in something real - it could be real, powerful, and extremely meaningful to them - and thats great. Their definition of real ownership is absolutely built on the specific dynamic of their relationship.

So while the following are absurd in a general sense - "True Dom" "Real Dom" "True Submission", "Real Owneship"
They  can all be very true and real within the context of a specific relationship.

she is the one owned, she defines what ownership is and if it feels real to her it's real, he can help her along by giving her a reason to feel that way

he can spout i own you all day long but until she feels yes nada , notice i said feels yes and and not says yes

to me ownership is synonymous to control and to control you have to know her as well if not better than she knows herself, not a instant, quick or effortless accomplishment. one does not control by spouting orders and leaving her to deal with the emotional effort by herself. he has to be intimately involved with her efforts at everything. her success is his success and her failures are also his failures etc, etc, etc, to those that feel about this as i do the etc's are understood

it's a bloody team effort

i don't think i could put that much effort into more than one woman, i'd rather control one woman well than 2+ women not as well, it's the maximum level of control that is the turn on for me
