I was sitting with my best friend and her husband, helping them clean their apartment. I had a CD on that played Marlyn Mansons' version of "Sweet Dreams." And my friend's husband kind of mocks the song for it's slow, dark, gothic tone. He then questions the lyrics, half joking. 'Who would want to be abused?" I thought to myself, this song is seriously the BDSM national anthem. Not only because it is so dark (and sexy! lol) but because the lyrics really do work with the ideals of BDSM. "Some of them want to use you. Some of them want to be used by you." "Some of them want to abuse you. Some of them want to be abused." Clearly, the first two lines about being used fit well with the BDSM ideals. I guess "abuse" isn't the best word for it. But I was thinking of it it terms of pain exchange and whatnot (people who like giving it vs those who like getting pain) I guess once you use the term "abuse" it indicates non consentual violence and/or pain. So I suppose those lines don't work. But certinally the first line of lyrics do! I'm sure I'm not the first one to make this connection. lol Anyone else ever think of it??
