The video concentrates on a particular management style (concern for task 9,1). Perhaps now you should look at other forms of management style focused on concerns for workers or matching concern for task and workers? As for Taylor he is one person who had a massive impact but his ideas have long since been replaced with better styles of management, you can't treat people like machines because you get more out of them when they enjoy the work.

The video is very one sided.

Nice and dramatic however, the producers should enter the movie business.

30 years is a long time tho.

-- what would you say then is a reason for worker dissatisfaction?

I know the student loan thing is a big drag on some.

During a recession the boss has more power because people realise there are a lot of people out of work and they don't want to join them. Thus they are dissatisfied with their job because they are willing to work harder to avoid redundancy and so feel cheated. Bosses obviously realise there is the ability to get more out of workers during this time also and have a duty to do so for the survival of the company.

It is not uncommon for workers to be dissatisfied with their work during times of economic hardship, it's an employer’s market at present but things will change.

Student loans are a problem but I’m unsympathetic in some respects because many students chose areas of study where it was obvious they’d struggle to get a job due to the saturation within the sector. I can remember back how everyone at one point seemed to be choosing media studies whilst traditional business science and engineering courses were undersubscribed. These people were intelligent enough to do such courses but they had the same ambitions as everyone else rather than recognising skills shortages in other areas.

A few jobs I worked seemed to always be in crises mode. Everything was an emergency. This being before the downtown. When I built houses- the management thought that a pissed off worker will work harder.

So it is hard to say what came first - chicken or the egg- per boss vs worker.
