Truckers strike against Oakland RFID, air quality control program Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in News California truckers are outraged at the new RFID system which recently became mandatory, reports the Oakland Tribune. Drivers are required to have RFID tags to verify their truck’s compliance with the California Air Resources Board truck registry database. But hundreds of drivers were turned away either because the units were faulty or hadn’t been registered at all. The Northern California Rail and Port Truckers Association stopped working, after hundreds of drivers were prevented from entering the port’s marine terminals, some facing long lines while waiting for others to talk to RFID kiosks testers.
Lakhbir Bhambra, the association’s vice president, said that was the last straw. Drivers cannot make up the money they lose waiting in line. They have to work to pay bills and truck expenses. Bruce Wargo, representative for the terminal operators’ RFID program, replied by stating that 92 percent of the trucks were allowed to enter the terminals and he expected that the problems should be resolved within a few days. It wont last long once the port starts getting clogged up with backed up containers and ships waiting offshore.

For all the fuming and hot air over fuming and hot air, the strategic economic prerogative will prevail

It seems odd that in a recession that anyone what-so-ever would strike.

Why would this even be a problem when i-pass pays tolls with no problem.   Onstar has been used to shut off a vehicle during a chase- and they plan to do more of it.  even if you dont pay ontar- on newer cars they can still be shut off- and tracked.

Then there is talk of taxing people by the mile driven.

You can add to that time sesnitve tolling- and privatizing of alot of roads to raise money.

throw in tickets by cam-

as to what it all adds up to?

Well in this case- it adds up to a trucker strike.

..rfids.  They are in passports.  So- ok- I rig a bomb in a garbage cab- to go off when someone walks by it that holds a US passport.

taken to the next level- maybe an exwife-

one can rig up an rfid reader for about $250.

the point is that rfids can be abused.    don't pay that parking ticket- zap-- no car work.  How about late on a credit card.  zap no car work.  They are already making car loans where if you are late on the payment the car does not work.

..or maybe I have a brother in law that works where I can get the wrong info.   this truck compliance- will it apply to cars one day?  per haps.

the world in a few decades will be a whole different place.

California is in the process of some auto-erotic asphyxiation. There is a lot coming their way and the have their head so far up their ass they can't see it coming.

careful- that shirt you are wearing has an RFID in it.  Just love Walmart.   Forget to take your pills?  Well- they too will have rfids in them.

You post is incredulous.

We track and trace everything - and it is going to go hyper- and YOUR LIFE is among those who will participate in RFIDS.

You have no attention span when inventories and numerous other aps are in swing for this.

But hey- "you" are immune from RFIDs.   Ha.

Oh bullshit.  I'm an rf/microwave electronics engineer.  I read up on RFID in magazines like EETimes and IEEE Spectrum.  I know bullshit in those articles when I see it.
