It has been flooding the streets... the freeway.. I could walk to the store, but it would mean getting wet.. and I did that yesterday because I had to get food...

I cannot see going places when the ground is saturated and the water is just piling up in the streets as soon as the rain falls

Since when did California become the beef capitol of the US???

We have lots of cattle here, and they are usually the prime variety that they make black angus out of

Black Angus is the breed even though per USDA standards the farmer does not have to prove the bloodline. Any black steer can be butchered and called Black Angus. It's just another way to put a fancy label on the meat package and increase the price.

I am sure California has a sizable number of cattle but given what I've seen of the US, I am pretty sure the rain in California is not going to have any effect on the price of beef nation wide.

Even the deep freeze the south went through that was supposed to increase the price of oranges........I bought some the other day for a third the price I paid a month ago.

Too many suppliers of beef nationwide for some rain in one state to be a valid excuse for a price increase.

The only thing I can see causing that is a massive virus that went nation wide or a dramatic weather crisis like The Dust Bowl, that affects multiple farming states. Drive through Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, etc......plenty of cattle.

Im not eduMcated on beef to be honest.

I cannot find anything comparative on google to help compare our beef products with others, but our beef industry is still largely in the hands of family ranchers. I lived near one major beef grower...Harris Ranch... Sinergy used to tease me that is smelled like cow shit where I lived...lol

Here is a link to Harris Ranch.. I know they grow good meat... open range some of it...

quote:

Located in Central California, Harris Farms has been under continuous family operation since 1937. Since its founding in Fresno County, Harris Farms has grown into one of the largest family owned, vertically integrated agribusinesses in the nation. Today, under the leadership of John Harris, the Harris name has probably become best known for producing the finest quality beef available. Together, Harris Feeding Company and Harris Ranch Beef Company have established a reputation as two of the most innovative firms in the industry, pioneering the development of branded beef and value-added beef products. The Harris Farms Horse Division was established in 1966 by John Harris and his father, Jack, cattle ranchers, farmers and horsemen devoted to the raising and training of Thoroughbred racehorses. The Harris Farms Horse Division breeds, trains and races thoroughbred horses. Currently standing several top stallions, Harris Farms thoroughbred horses are campaigning successfully at tracks throughout the United States. The Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant was established in 1977 and today we take pride in serving nearly 2,000 guests a day. Harris Ranch Restaurant showcases high quality Harris Ranch U.S.D.A. Choice and Prime Beef, plus Harris Farms fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables. The Harris family’s philosophy to provide only the best products, care, and service to customers is evident in every division of the company.

For some reason this reminds me of this recent story

quote:

This week, the FBI released a “digitally-altered” image showing what Osama Bin Laden possibly looks like now that he’s older.

While the FBI claims to have used “cutting-edge” technology to create the image, a Spanish politician has noticed that the poster is a modified version of his campaign photo — he now finds his face in America’s most wanted list.

Oh wow this made me laugh because I can relate!!  Actually he's been jumping from window sill to window sill all through the night, as the rain has been pounding against the windows and the trees are banging on the outsides of the walls.  Poor little guy.
