juliaoceania -> Why I have Little Interest Anymore... (1/22/2010 12:38:12 PM)

I do not think that it matters to most people why I choose to engage so little in the political flamefests anymore, but I just thought I would put some stuff out there about what I have been mulling over the last few years about Obama, the Democrats, and Republicans in general... and the state of affairs as I see it.. not that my view is really relevant, but perhaps there are others as jaded as I am...

First of all, Obama... well he is just a tall drink of sexy articulate hotness... actually if I had to handcraft a dominant man, it would be this one.. Michelle is one lucky woman (he is pretty lucky too, I might add)... but my personal attraction to this person aside, and my hopes that he will bring change in the future aside, all I see from his admin is the same shit different year.... and I am extremely disappointed.

The Democrats... Well some of them are trying to legislate the mandate they have, but there are a handful of demopukes that stood in the way.. .and as far as I am concerned, Jospeph Lieberman can go screw himself.. he is not a democrat anyways, it is time the democrats man up and kick this sorry excuse for a human being to the rubbish bin... please do not recycle this man, there is no green use for him...

The Democrat leadership is full of shit. They are trying to sell us on this "super majority" pile of crap, well folks, the republicans never needed one... politics is the carrot and the stick, and if those who oppose your agenda don't take your carrot, you got to beat them with the stick... it is the way it is done, and if the democrats can't get their change on, well the public is going to move on...

Brings me to the Teabagging idiots purifying the right... you know I would worry that the republicans could take back congress if it were not for these nutbags on their side of the ideological fence... imploding from within they are. I wish there was some voice of sanity (and I do not mean the dude that has that moniker on this site) that could come up with some alternative ideas to move things in this country...

It really comes down to money in the system... for a short little glimmer in time I thought perhaps things might change, well they aren't going to, and we are still going to hell in a handbasket...

so I read political threads on CM with no zest to really jump into the fray, because it is all the same shit different year... and why waste my breath?

Now the flaming from both sides can ensue.,... the sad thing is I am so apathetic I could care less to debate the points I just made

Sad to read of your withdrawal of interest. Your disappointment is probably justified. But participation is what life is about. If not here then perhaps elsewhere. Just jump in anytime anywhere you choose, but do jump in. Grab whatever you choose by the nuts or tits and have a ball. [:D]

Agree. Pick one and enjoy your life. Some say we only have this one dance.

Maybe that's the problem: too many ideals and unachievable objectives.

The limitations of politics isn't a new phenomenon........

There's a big difference between spotting the issues and making it a life time's work to change that which is outside of your control......and understanding the issues and seeing the funny side.

There are many ways to make our country a better place.
As for Obama he's a Republican! I've been waiting for all the "Change" too and haven't seen any, it's like Bush never left!
And he surrounds himself with Wall Street insiders and people are surprised?
Big Corporations shouldn't be allowed to loot the treasury!

Yes, but they're all evil socialist nonsense that will inconvenience the rich folk who are doing all this good work for America.

The problem with electing any charismatic leader is there will be those on the other side looking to embarrass the man. All the issues last year have been basically about making Obama look like someone that promises the earth but can't deliver on anything. To achieve this all the republicans have had to do is create all this fear mongering as to how the US will be worse off under this proposed policy. It would be nice to know what all this fear mongering was based on in terms of actual numbers but in any case who is going to scrutinise the actual numbers if the headlines are far more dramatic? Has any president received so much character assassination attempts in the first year?

It's going to take much more effort to get the facts across better to actually achieve something, it's been a disastrous start to say the least (as an impartial observer[8|]).

That is not my issue with his admin... I hate agreeing with popeye, but the insiders from wall street really piss me off.. and that was a poor move

I guess faced with the global financial meltdown he lost his nerve for reform, this was a 100 year rate of return event in my view. Nobody can really say any other elected leader has faced such a prospect in recent terms. So yeah he fell for the ‘don’t tie our hands or you’ll effect the recovery’ line. I'd add the 'too big to fail' line is also true and the reform that is needed in my view is how to reduce an entity and spread out the risk so it no longer is too big.

Definately agree. The best defense against apathy is to recognize the absurdities. Listen to the music and enjoy the dance anyway. The campaign was a great show. Governing will always be difficult. Should not be a surprise. The politician's greatest wish is re-election. It dictates his calculations. Nothing new.

It was pretty much always about a governing class... the little people have had to fight for every little gain we have had

....I share your frustration.  I wish I could make it better.

Absolutely. With the best intentions in the world you have your work cut out to please millions of people - with their personal frustrations. Not a job I'd fancy. And the greatest delusion of them all that we can somehow understand and control the world (god excepted).

MzMia -> RE: Why I have Little Interest Anymore... (1/22/2010 3:11:07 PM)

I rarely engage in any of the flamefests.
After being on here so long, I ususally make my point {one, two or three} times,
than just stop posting.
****Unless it is a thread that I started, I tend to hang on in those threads longer.****
                                   [:D]

Great post julia.
I am a child of the 70s, and I never have trusted "the man", so I am not even going down that path.

I will say I am glad President Obama was elected, I never expected that he would perform miracles, and I also know that you don't get to be President of the United States, without having to make a lot of well known and well heeled "friends", along the way.

It goes without saying that President Obama had some serious well heeled backers, many "liberal" organizations, maybe a few even in the "Chicago machine", backing him.
I doubt that he will "forget" his strongest supporters and the special interest groups that helped get him in the White House.

I love the fact that I lived to see a Black President elected, and I believe he has a great heart and
really wants to do what he can for our country.
Now, what he will really be able to do is another question.

As far as Democrats or Republicans?  They are both "the man", and as I said I don't usually trust "the man".
I normally side with the Democrats, as the lesser of 2 evils, but I am most certainly a MODERATE.
But I am glad "the man" in the Oval Office is President Obama.
I hope and pray he is able to make at least half of the difference he wants to make.

Moonhead -> RE: Why I have Little Interest Anymore... (1/22/2010 3:11:46 PM)

I find it hard to give a fuck at this point. Americans get the governers they deserve: a clade of shitheads who are only there to keep their lobbyists happy.

Well done, and I agree with you, what we have be it the US or the UK, is not going to change, the status quo is not going to be upset nor even challenged, what words are spoken by contenders vying for power is just more noise, meaningless bullshit that goes no further than at best the ballot box, then gone forever.

The last time the UK had an election, Bliar of Labour kept his position as PM, yet only 40 % of the voting population actually cast their vote, the majority having already seen the light and though why bother. So Bliar riding on the crest of the wave of self belief took us into a war based on lies and then later resigned his position to seek his fortune in a farcical special peace envoy position made for him by whoever. He proved himself by war and went on to collect his dues. That essentially is what politics is all about, lining ones own pockets, nothing more.

juliaoceania -> RE: Why I have Little Interest Anymore... (1/22/2010 8:39:10 PM)

Yeah, Blair was to "New Labor" what Clinton was to "Blue Dog Democrat"
