If you go back to the "Challenge" thread, there is a common denominator - nobody really feels good about either political party. Many commented that there is really no distinction between the parties. It's also conceded that under the current rules, a third party is not viable. I agree 100%! What we should do is at every opportunity - primary elections, as well as general. Vote "NO" for the incumbents. NO to every incumbent; from the most inconsequential school board election, local/City officials, Mayor, State Representatives. Everyone in office is responsible for the condition we find ourselves. Everyone has "earned" the consequence. This solution would give those claiming no reason to vote, a reason and one vote - NO!

While most of the voting bloc is so stigmatized by partisanship that it has no idea how close the two parties are to actually being one in the same, the politicians and ruling elite on the other hand, know and understand this all to well. And I see that as conspiracy in and of its self.

The biggest single obstacle I see leading up to, and blocking the path to change, is the whole debate process and the way it's contrived, scripted, hoked-up and closed to all but two major candidates.

Since when are Americans afraid of a shrill voice? I can't stand Ralph Nader's politics, but I guarantee you the country as a whole, would be much better off if we let guys like Ralph Nader, Pat Buchanan and Allen Keys stand up and debate the likes of Kerry, Gore and Bush.

Closed, contrived, scripted, phony debates, don't serve a single ounce of justice to the American people. You wanna start to see change? Open the debate process to other potential candidates and let a representative form of the *real* citizenry ask the questions, not the elite and blue-blooded forms of the press. Remember..... the key to remaining on an expansive trajectory, means always allowing new ideas/people to come into the fold.

PS - To the mods - please change the ''cut and paste option'' back, there's no sense in punishing everyone who follows the rules for the transgressions of the few - Thats archaic thinking

Government in the United States is the single largest employer.

Government in the United States has the highest payroll.

Government in the United States has the largest budget.

Government in the United States is the largest landholder.

Taxes are for many families their single largest expense.

Perhaps the problem and source of concern is not the politicians who come and go but the shear scope of power that it wields.  Try to think of a part of your life that some agency or branch of government isn't involved in.

You're starting to think like a libertarian now - That's good - LMAO!

If I had my way, with one stroke of the pen, I'd completely decentralize the power-structure{and it's scope} you speak of, and turn what's left of it into a skelton crew.

And that's how it was at the beginning.

so...get rid of the politics as well

Well, there's no politics in Cuba.  Or China.  Or Syria.   There was no politics in Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Pick your poison.

Our capabilities have little to do with "defense," and your statment doesn't address the cause of our exploding budget deficit.

Lawmakers have hiked non-defense discretionary spending by 36 percent since 2001.

You focus on defense spending but the task of controlling overall spending could not be complete without addressing the largest part of the budget: Federal entitlements, which are not subject to annual appropriations.

Just 10 years ago, this spending (excluding interest) represented about 49 percent of the budget; today it is 54 percent; in just 10 years, it will exceed 62 percent  Overall entitlement spending is growing at a rate of nearly 6% a year.

Sitting here reading this thread I have formed somewhat of an opinion. I think an insidious consensus may be forming here, that part of the blame belongs to the voters.

I will not vote. A wannabe city councilman came to my door a while back wanting my vote. Wanna know what I told him ?

"Mister, if you want my vote, get outta that monkey suit. Show up in a T shirt and jeans, or at least some regular dockers off the shelf. Light a cigarette, and use the word shit in a sentence.

Tell me how you're going to vote against damnear everything they put in front of you and how you want to help get the gov off my (our) fuckin backs. BUM A BEER OFF ME !.

Let's talk about the DU weapons the Bush crowd is using and how there is going to be hell to pay, but then we can't do much on a local level. But perhaps circulationg a petition style statement to all elected officials condemning the war and at least they will know that we are elected people saying this, perhaps they'll take some notice. It's a long road, but I wanna be like a local version of Ron Paul. I would love to hit that joint I can smell, but I have to stay squeaky clean because they will be after me. I don't want to end up like James Trafficant, who didn't do shit you know".

I have heard of Presidents using profanity, but then a few years ago, it was "fuck you" or "go fuck yourself". What has changed ? Decades ago this profanity was directed a certain way, a few years ago it was directed to people who this person was supposedly paid to interact with.

What we need are leaders who think of themselves as servants, not tyrants who think of themselves as leaders. If you've seen some of the stupid fucking legislation these clowns introduce, and I mean simple ones in like a city hall somewhere, you know these people have absolutely no concept of the Constitution or what a free society is. Fact of the matter is, they think they own the constituents, not represent them.

When these MFs are so entrenched, like they are in this country, the ballot box will not work, you need a bullet box, and a big one. I am all for trying it the right way. Put forth ONE CANDIDATE who will represent me and I'll be the votinest MF in town. I'll do like illegal aliens and vote 5 or 10 times in each election ! But for who ?

Want me to vote ? Sure, just give me a reason.

Quit bitching and run for office yourself.  Geez, people.

Rule -> RE: Political Solution? (4/10/2006 1:45:22 AM)

The powers that be will not tolerate anybody that is not part of their power structure to attain any kind of power, especially not presidential power. Such outsiders are simply discredited or killed off.
