So as not to further derail Lady Pact's thread "More of Ours, Less of Theirs", I set up this thread for all FAQ related discussion.

All are encouraged to voice their ideas for improving the FAQ. Below is the initial concept that has been agreed upon:

Safety
Etiquette (to include forum etiquette, CMail etiquette)
Profile Improvement/Contacting a Dominant
How to find Munches/Events local to oneself
Common Kinks/Fantasies(with some links to good threads pertaining to them)
Eunich/Castration
Forced (anything)
Feminization
Anal/Strapon
etc

Common Complaints (with links)
Scammers/fakes
ProDomme/Lifestyle Domme
Financial Domination
Nobody replies to my emails even though I SWEAR they are sincere
etc

Common Jargon/terminology
Top/Bottom
Bottom/Submissive/Slave
etc

To help get the ball rolling, I'd also like to add that I'm going to work on writing an intro and short Q&A style blurbs for each of the major headings.  Links to relevant archived threads will be listed for each of the subheadings.  Lurkers and newbies are encouraged to contribute if there's anything you'd like to see included that we've missed.

The idea is a good one, but I do have a bit of concern about adding the favorite rants (pro-domme issue, scammers, etc) to a frequently asked question section.  In My observation, there are more scammer complaints regarding all females regardless of role.  (In other words, just as many 'fake' subs as Dommes.)

I'm also curious to know if we're talking about one thread here or separate threads for all of the subjects?  If they are separate, that would clog the entire first page of the forum.  Having one thread for all subjects may have a tendency to make the one thread too cluttered.

Has anyone read the Gorean FAQ thread to see how that is set up?

Isn't it possible to have sub folders (not as in submissive)? Kind of like how one sets up their computer folders. You have the heading of say "Common Complaints" and then when you open it, there is another folder for each complaint. Then there would only be one "folder" on the main page titled "FAQ" which would lead to the others.

I think having such a thing sounds really great. I do wonder though how people will end up going there since people don't search for the subject now. I would hope that they might figure it is easier than searching (which it certainly would be). Hopefully, if nothing else it would reduce the common stuff.

This is true.  However, we seem to get the lion's share of anti-pro/financial domme complaints.  My goal is to make an attempt to shut them down before they start by including a short, no-nonsense answer to the domination-as-a-business ones.

My original thought was to have one thread dedicated to all profile help questions and one to all "help me with my first email" questions.  These would be similar to the long-running I Hate It When or I Love It When threads in the P&ORS section.  These threads don't need to be sticky if we post a link to them in the FAQ, which wouldn't be a thread, but a single post with the Q&A and relevant links.  When a new person comes along with a profile or first contact question, he (or she) can post a request for assistance and the corresponding thread gets bumped up to the first page.  Those who are willing to help then respond but will know right away what they're walking into and won't feel the need to read the entire thread.

Yes, I've read the Gorean FAQ and it's set up as a list of links to past threads grouped under general headings.  If it works for them, fine.  I think it leaves a great deal to be desired since it doesn't include the quick reference Q&A I want to see in ours.  However, that's typical of the Gorean mentality -- they expect newcomers to prove themselves worthy of civility by ploughing their way through a lot of convoluted threads and slogging through the entire body of 26+ poorly written books.

I don't want to spoon-feed answers to anyone, but I think a paragraph or two about each topic is a good lead-in to encourage newcomers to read the past threads we link in.  If you have other suggestions then, by all means, post away.  This is a work-in-progress so nothing is set in stone.

Its just one post, made by MusicMystery, containing links to FAQ threads and other relevant links. Nicely done.

Sylvere,

As promised, I composed a bit of Common Complaints and gathered a few links to other sections as well. I saved this in an MS Word document. Do you have a private email address where I can send the document as an attachment (do you have MS Word, what version?) Please send me a msg on the otherside where I can reach you. If you do not have MS Word, let me know how you'd prefer to receive the document and links.

EFT

I like the folder idea mentioned by LafayetteLady, but if that isn't possible, surely one or several threads covering each topic linked into one Main FAQ Page would suffice.

For instance, in the outline at the opening of this thread, below each subheading could be a link or a few links which relate to that specific subheading. The first link could be titled "Questions not found in supplied links for <specific subheading>". This would give the newcomers a place to post their more specific questions in an ongoing thread that never ends as suggested by Sylvere.

The links supplied below the ongoing thread could be a few good links that appear to answer the most common questions under that subheading.

Example:

Common Complaints (with links)
Scammers/fakes
Questions not found in supplied links for Scammers/Fakes (this would become a live thread)
Previous threads regarding Scammers:
http://www.collarchat.com/m_2807429/mpage_1/tm.htm

When a newcomer comes into the forum and posts one of these complaints and it's obvious that they haven't read the FAQ page, we could direct them to the FAQ page. Those of us who like this idea could perma-link the FAQ into our signatures, like MusicMystery did with his FAQ.

Edited for clarity.

While indeed there are the 'fake sub' threads in addition to the 'fake Dommes', I think that since this is the "Ask a Mistress" section, the FAQ should pertain to the specifics of FemDomme. Surely the submissives could use our example or the Gorean example and come up with their own FAQ if it interested them. Heck, they can even cross-link some of the links we provide

Thank you for explaining how this would work to Me.  I really am a computer twit on many aspects.  LOL.  So it would be something like how one separates things within yahoo folders?  Is this correct?

Received, downloaded, and successfully opened.  I'll put it together with the kink links and any other suggestions that come in over the next few days, then edit it.  I'll post the rough draft here for review and to get suggestions for revisions or additions.

Thanks again to everyone who is helping.  If anyone would like to contribute to this project, PLEASE feel free to chime in with your suggestions.  All constructive input is welcome.

For some reason I don't have the drkdesyre link on this computer (you know the one that lists all sorts of BDSM events?). If anyone could post that here I think it would be a great resource for the FAQ.

Since Etiquette was one I thought should be of high importance, I did a bit on it as well. I'll send that to you via email shortly. Please, by all means, add to it, get others opinions for more input, etc. While I don't want it to sound one-twue-way, I do want for it to give general guidelines of what most can agree is appropriate.

Bleh, I'm tired, so if this post is a bit muddled in wording, I hope ya get the gist...lol.

Would a thread, something along the lines of "Porn-Fed Fantasy Dominatrices versus Real-Life Dominant Women - What's the Difference, Anyway?" be considered? A thread for all interested dominant lady contributors to offer their perspective.
