Aylee -> Fighting (1/24/2010 7:50:27 PM)

Okay, I said that after I finished work this week and had a chance to "booze-up" (is that even a term?) I would post some claziness of my own.  After all, others have done the drunk posting.  So, here I am with my second beer open and ready for the clazy posting!  WOOT!

I commented in another thread about couples fighting over olives.

To be perfectly honest, I think that couples fighting in public is an ugly, horrible sight.  To add to this, they never seem to be fighting over anything that I would consider important.  It is things like the flavor of potato chips being purchased or whether new underware should be bought.

What is up with this behaviour?

Am I just apathetic?

Is it possible that these people feel a lack of control in other areas and so when they are in public they must assert some sort of psuedo-control?

Are cookies more important than I thought they were?

Thoughts anyone?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 8:01:46 PM)

You saw a couple fighting over OLIVES? Like, they were not sharing, or over the general process of olive making, or whether olives are a food or small brined pellets of poison? (a friend totally felt that way)

I do not know if I need to get out more.

I was told today via email that I am an evil politician in search of a leadership role in the local bdsm leather community.

This is interesting, since I pretty much HAVE a leadership role in the local bdsm community, just from years of service, etc, and did not have to do anything political at all.

Actually over whether to buy the can of medium or large black olives.  I really considered handing them a dollar and telling them to "buy both."

I do not like olives.  They are gross.  However, I have purchased them more than once as the other half thinks they are a wonderful treat.  I have asked before which were his preference.  He did not have one, so I am thinking that they taste the same.  He did comment that the fancy ones I bought stuffed with almonds that I put in his stocking were not quite to his taste.  Okay fine, I won't get those again.  No big deal.  It certainly was not a discussion had in public, nor was it a fight.  It was a simple information exchange.

I've actually done that, in a slightly different situation. A customer was haranguing a McDonald's cashier about 23 cents or so (and holding up the line). I silently held out a dollar, and she soon slinked away (without taking it).

Level -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 8:25:35 PM)

Aylee, I think your comment on their lack of control in their lives probably explains a lot of these things.

That, and people can be assholes.

Now, the importance of cookies? Steven might want to field that one...

I have long thought that public shaming should be brought back.  Perhaps we should all start doing that more.

But do they REALLY feel better about things if the olives are large instead of medium or vice versa?  I do not think that I would feel any better.

This is true.  I would like them to find something more important to be asshole-ish about though.

I still need to make him some cookies.  Unfortunatly, I have no idea of his favorite kind.  *sigh*

To be frank though, if and when my budget has been so tight that only one kind of cookie could have been bought, there would / was no fight.  Cookies were not bought at all.  There were other things to spend the money on rather than "treats."

girlygurl -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 8:49:23 PM)

Cookies are very important [:D]

As far as my thoughts on the OP...
I suppose the control issue could be at play, but I see it as a display of hmmmm how do I say this without sounding... oh screw it... they're low life scum. [:)]

The more confident someone is, the more things they can take in stride.

In some cases the need for control in tiny things is a reflection of a feeling of lack of control in other areas of life. Likewise, I've noticed the often someone will feel hurt or resentful of their partner but is unable (or unwilling) to connect the feeling with the actual cause and so it surfaces in some other weird way - the type of toothpaste being bought or what TV show to watch.

Also, sometimes the fact is, people can just be immature rude assholes. That happens too.

DarkSteven -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 8:52:05 PM)

They weren't fighting over the olives.

Something else had happened... he was still pissed off that she hadn't done the laundry, and she was ticked that he had worked two hours overtime without telling her.  You get the idea... they didn't fight over the big things, but the resentment was still there - and then their emotions came out over the olives.

I doubt it. Because they're assholes. [:D]

No, seriously, I doubt it, there are bigger issues there, I imagine.

A good point.  There seem to be an awful lot of those out there.

Yet I wonder if perhaps they would spend less time concerned over the olives, chips, cookies, and such, if they could not improve their lives to the point that they did not feel the need to make such fools out of themselves over trivial matters.

Or this could be wishful thinking on my part.

I agree with both of you, I just feel that there are better ways of dealing with it.  At home preferably.  Why these things need to happen in public, I have no idea.  It looks so undignified.

What?  Do you want pictures?  Not until you are going to sign me up for those phone call thingies!

AquaticSub -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 9:23:17 PM)

~Fast Reply~

My first thought is that there is probably more going on than you are aware of.

Stress, other fights that spilled over into this venue, lack of sleep... Val and I have bickered in public though we did our damned best to keep it quiet. In fact we did it today because we were both starving and irriatable and couldn't agree on where to eat lunch. Don't ask me why he didn't just select a place and command it, we weren't thinking straight.

Happens to most of us from time to time.

Aylee -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 9:44:31 PM)

Come on you all!  This is supposed to be drunken crazy posting!  Where are the snarks and such.  I am doing my best!

Don't tell me I actually started something that could be taken seriously!

Drat!

Maybe I need crazy posting lessons.  Where does one sign up for that?

fluffypet61 -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 10:01:56 PM)

Sign up for Crazy Posting Lessons at the Crazy Horse Restaurant, of course!

WoooHoooo!

I will have to do that!

Apparently I have become just way too mellow to post something highly inflammatory.

Sheesh.

First I'm too snarky.

Then I'm too serious.

WTF - I CAN'T WIN!

Fine you know what... the answer is that the couple were fighting cause they weren't weal and twue. Cause if they were, one of them woulda dropped to the ground and started licking the other's shoes in front of the kids screaming at their Mommy for the heart-attack-in-a-box cereal.

Because nothing matters in the lifestyle more than the dominant having clean shoes at ALL times. Fuck the olives - those only matter in sub-sub couples. And if they were a sub-sub couple, they should have crawled around on the floor begging for someone to tell them what to do.

(Did I do better this time? [:D])

You are toooooo funny!  Thanks!  I needed that.

And you fuck the olives, they are icky.

AquaticSub -> RE: Fighting (1/24/2010 10:22:12 PM)

I will fuck the olives.

But not because you fucking told me to.

Because I fucking LOVE olives ok?

So I am going to fuck them. In my mouth. With my tongue. And it's going to be fucking DELICIOUS.

(Should I light something on fire now? It seems to fit with the theme here... )
