WyldHrt hits on the key point. Either an act is so fundamentally hurtful or destructive that I cannot get over it or it isn't. If it is, she's getting released. If it isn't, discussion + punishment + delineation of how things will be stricter going forward (at least temporarily) is proportionally used to address the issue.

If I was to start gossiping about him or talking about him behind his back, if I cheated on him or in anything I would do in life, if I suddenly became someone other than the person he has come to care for and own, I have a feeling we'd no longer be in a relationship at all. He'd dump my ass and rightfully so.
