About the insult to your partner thing. I changed my profile (at another site) after we got together. But I didn't do so for his sake, but in hopes it would lessen the amount of weird mail I was getting.
Months later he still hadn't changed his. When I asked why, he laughed and said since nobody had ever written him, it simply didn't occur to him to do so. Not insulting or disrespectful, just that men don't get many women writing them unless they're forumites and he isn't.
