I want to start writing down my boyfriend's preferences in a notebook. I'm thinking this will help me remember some of his more subtle or seasonal preferences (for example, I'm not certain I'll remember next December that he prefers icicle lights to colored strings). Do you keep a notebook like this? And if so, how do you organize it (by category? by season? something else?)? Any other hints for me to keep my notebook easy-to-use and organized?

Thanks.

mnottertail -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 6:59:21 AM)

I would think at the start by category.

Food and drink

TV and movies

Songs

Bedroom

Kitchen

Living Room

Flowers

Sports

you know, like that.

Ron

I write memo notes on my blackberry.

HisSweetElysium -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 8:24:43 AM)

hmm I never had a problem keeping that stuff in my head, but perhaps I give myself more credit than I should. Would be interesting to write out, thank you for the idea!! :)

You would have categories other than "Blowjob?"

I think it's a good idea, but then, I'm a lister. [8|]

The big stuff goes into my head.  The small/subtle stuff goes down on a small notepad by category.  [:D]

WyldHrt -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 11:44:51 AM)

I'm a geek, so such a list would be done in an Excel spreadsheet and kept on my netbook [:D]

It would be very pleasurable to stamp some duties on your ass.

Damn, did I type this in open forum. Oh well.

Nah. Valyraen, surprisingly, doesn't have a lot of preferences so it's pretty easy to remember. If he wants lights up, he'll have a preference on how they go up - which he'll do himself - but won't actually care what kind we use and will leave that up to me. That sort of thing he tends to just dismiss as "That's why I have a Kitten - so I don't have to think about that stuff".

His prefences run more towards food and are pretty easy to remember as they are general guidelines and he's not too bad as far as being a picky eater goes, as long as I'm making him food that he isn't used to have cooked a particular way and wants it just so. Since I hardly ever manage to get it just right, he generally just cooks those meals himself.

I was just thinking of this last night! HM has lots of preferences and after four years, I should remember all of them, but don't. I hate calling him from the store to ask him things I should know!

littlewonder -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 3:26:20 PM)

I don't. I just pay attention and tuck it into the back of my mind. Most of the time I remember his preferences. Sometimes I don't. The times I don't I eventually rememeber after enough times of not remembering and smacking myself in the head for not remembering.

Master seems to think I have a nack for remembering little things. I think I'll let him continue to believe that. <G>

sunshinemiss -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 3:50:10 PM)

I have a dreadful memory!  And my hearing is going a bit as well.  And did I mention that my mind is always spinning, thinking of three things at once!  I write in a journal, and the act of writing helps me.  I also make notes in my calendar, my phone, I send emails and messages to myself.

Clothes (how he likes his kept, which he likes on you),
Restaurants he likes and what he likes to order from there (file next to the phone with menus)
Allergies!

I think that just keeping a running list for awhile would be useful.  Over time the categories will become obvious to you.

Have fun!
sunshine
need to ...
pay credit card
complete time sheet
send letter to school
finish lesson plan
clean kitchen
answer the phone....

He has a notebook... but then again its not about my preferences... its got my smart mouthed comments when I dont think before I speak. heheh I will pay for them, probably with a sore ass... :D

ANYWAYS...

I would think a notebook would be handy... I may start one as well.

Thanks for the idea :)

softpjOS -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 6:29:04 PM)

What you're referring to is often called a "Butlers Book" and/or "household manual" and yes, they are very handy! Imagine his surprise when he has company coming over and you already *know* what their beverage preference is (because you already have it in your book).

A few things I keep track of are:

Household cleaners she prefers, favorite meals and the recipes for them, friends/family birthdays and anniversarys, what her friends beverage preferences are and any food allergies they have (totally uncool to put together a dinner only to find out one of the guests is allergic (or hates) the main course! I also keep up on her bill schedules, doctors appointments, mileage for her vehicle (for scheduled maintence and billing purposes). I also note any new CDs by her favorite artist coming out and magazines she's shown interest in (for those stuck in bed sick days). If she mentions a dish that I've not made before, I'll note it, look it up and at some point surprise her with it for dinner.

If she rattles off a project she's been meaning to do or an item that needs replaced before the next time it's used, I'll note it and when we are out shopping mention it to her.

Thankfully she's not terribly picky about brands so I'm pretty safe when grocery shopping but if she was... yep, it would be in there too.

ETA:

I update her schedule in her PDA at least once a month, and keep it in mine as well. Love love love having a PDA... it's my mini butlers book. But don't do what I did and keep everything only in it.... they DO die horrible deaths sometimes and starting over does suck!

I used to think I could keep track of all this in my head but between age and our hectic schedule, I've come to love my butler's book.. it's saved my tush a few times lol.

lucylucy -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 6:46:45 PM)

softpjOS, wow, you totally inspired me! Keeping track of his friends' and family's preferences is a great idea . . . and making a note of a dish that's mentioned and surprising him with it . . . oh, yes, I'm totally inspired! Thanks.

Thanks, Ron, for the category ideas.

sunshinemiss, noting what he likes from his favorite restaurants is a great idea.

Off to start my Butler's Book . . .

That is exactly what I thought! I saw Ron thought blowjob and then the reference wasnt there.

So even if she did everthing perfectly needing a memory aid is a deal breaker????  I never understand why some Doms get so worked up over the method used rather than the quality of the end result.

BKSir -> RE: preferences notebook (1/26/2010 8:06:04 PM)

I think that might be a fine idea.  I got damn lucky with a pet with a nearly photographic memory, but I think your idea is a very good one indeed.  Not everyone can remember "Oh, Sir/Ma'am prefers blueberries to strawberries on his/her waffles."  Or "Master/Mistress hates this song."

I say, if you feel that such a thing would help you serve better, and that's what your final objective is, then go for it.  If I were your master, I'd be impressed and pleased with your ingenuity and cleverness on such a matter. [:)]
