>.< Edited for DUMB comment since I read "so [it] was Jeff with 3 f's" Lance was my father's choice for me. Since I was born in 1950, Mom would not agree, thinking it salacious. <Now, how often do you get to use that word?> We lived in Chicago and my mother's parents lived next door (with almost all her relatives in ChicagoLand, so I knew most of them pretty well.) My father's side of the family lived across Illinois in Kewanee (Hog capital of the world) except for his maiden Aunt. My great Aunt Margaret was quite the "Auntie Mame" character in my life. She lived close - close enough for me to visit almost daily. Her maiden name (and my paternal Grandmother's) was Hughes. I wanted to "pay tribute" to my Aunt Margaret, hence, Lance Hughes. The "Huge Lance" pun - if you will - is appropos. <Mom was right, salacious, it is.> Oh, yeah, that reminds me: Scrambling my patronym yields "Long Hard."
