As the article's title states, is this indeed why South Carolina has kept Governor Sanford?

quote:

In a speech at a town hall meeting in the Upstate, Bauer revisited instructions he said his grandmother had given him when he was a small child. Bauer said his grandmother, who was not highly educated, had told him to stop feeding stray animals.

"You know why?" he asked. "Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a human ample food supply.

If this has been covered already, please deep six the thread, Mods.

I do believe that this is the kinda guy at least two posters on this forum would vote for

You know I honestly didn't believe that he said this till I listened to teh recording of him saying it and then justifying it on TV.

I know I've said before that my parents were pretty much the stereotypical drunken louts but they also really didn't give a rat's ass about my brothers or I. They simply never gave us money for lunch at school or even the paltry nickel for a carton of milk much less make us lunches. Luckily the elementary school assistant principal saw that I was not eating lunch and basically forced my parents to sign the forms that got my brothers and I free lunches. There certainly were days that the only thing we had were those free lunches and eventually breakfasts.

Of the 4 of us we hold 3 bachelor's degrees, have all done reasonably well financially and we have had only 5 children between us.

I'm not saying that the program Bauer so casually maligns saved us but it certainly made things easier for us and for many thousands of other children. Bauer should try going hungry for a few weeks and see how his tune changes.

Jeff, that is certainly possible; but it kinda blows my mind that he somehow has made it to Lt Governor.

Ken, I think he has a "tin ear", like the article says, but a heart of stone too, perhaps. Maybe going hungry would help that, or it might just make him more twisted.

Now, one can wring some truth out of what the moron said-- if you do for SOME people, then they will indeed try to leach more out of you. Until society figures out a way to toss those to the curb, while still helping those that honestly need it, things will be fucked up.
