Terry O'Neill, the head of the National Organization for Women was just on Larry King with the head of the group paying for the Tebow ad. To listen to this woman any person expressing a pro-life opinion is attacking a woman's right to abortion. What an idiot.

Shes got plenty of clones on this board.

Clink on the link for "anti abortion up roar"

Try actually listening to what she said this time. Focus on the Family talks a good game... but thats all it is, talk.

Whats the difference between a woman who has been raped and a woman who does not want to be pregnant?

The woman who has been raped had no say in the matter, the one who does not want to be pregnant made the choice to have sex and take the chance that she might become pregnant.

careful. your walking a fine line there. date rape, spousal rape, isnt always about force. but, the one word you did use is the crux of the matter. its all about choices. regardless of the choices made, its about the RIGHT to make that CHOICE for herself.

Seems to me that the issue here is not the ad per se. In fact, i think most people don't have a problem with any individual or group exercising free speech.

The issue is that, historically, ads that take one side of any controversial issue have been barred. Which means that this ad ought to pave the way for many other groups to produce ads and buy the airtime should they so choose. The controvery will begin if any of those other ads are subsequently barred.

They already have been. The gay site was declined. Even Focus on the Family leader admitted on Larry King that they had to change the ad to suit CBS before it could be aired. I have no problem with this type of ad, i just see the potential pitfalls and lashing out that this will generate.

If you are referring to the Gay site ad, no, that was this year. If you are referring to the Tebow ad, again, that was this year, and has been in the works, quietly, for many months.

Speaking for myself:

Just because it's in the Constitution does not make it right. It was once unconstitutional for a woman to vote; that was rightly corrected.

Are abortions a "risk"? Of course. Does that risk outweigh another's life?

I've said it before: I can understand it when a woman's life is in imminent danger. I can also understand, if not agree with, abortion when there has been rape or incest.

Once again I'd like to point out that the number one cause of death among pregnant women is murder.  So how do you know whose life if in imminent danger?  Let the decision be between the woman and her doctor.  You are against abortion, then don't have one.

Something a bit more disturbing is the trend now for some women (or girls) to kill the child after it is born.  Is it not more humane to abort a preganancy early on than to kill the baby after it is born?  And it's not just the mothers who are doing this, it's the fathers as well.  From the American Journal of Psychiatry http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/162/9/1578
"Among children under age 5 years in the United States who were murdered in the last quarter of the 20th century, 61% were killed by their own parents: 30% were killed by their mothers, and 31% by their fathers "
"Mothers committing neonaticide were typically younger and unmarried. They had unwanted pregnancies and no prenatal care."

Rather than concentrait on the abortion itself, why not be just as vocal and active about the circumstances that lead a woman to her decision to abort?  So-called "pro life" groups do not give a damn about anything coming out of the womb alive.  They are so thrilled to close down Planned Parenthood locations, an organization that has provided factual information, low-cost or free pregnancy prevention methods for years.  Woman (and girls) have fewer places to go to get non-judgemental information, advice, birth-control.  Nice job Pro-Life!

I've not finished all the thread, but did anyone point out that abortion was, and still is illegal in the Phillipines?  It wasn't much of a choice to make.

BTW, about the women who choose to take the chance of getting pregnant by having sex.... there are a lot of ways to become pregnant while using birth control.  Pills in particular are so low-dose nowadays that you need to take them at the same time every day, and have a higher pregnancy rate than old ones did.  There are a bunch of common medications that make the pill ineffective.  If you want your tubes tied, are young and have never had kids, good luck finding a surgeon.

Do you propose women be celibate all their lives if they don't want children?  Or men, for that matter?

Why do you hate the unborn?

But...but...but... I don't!  Honest!

Yes, it's a deep conspiracy exposed, my hatred of the unborn and to do everything in my power to keep them from being made.  Yup.  Damn your eyes!

The fact that Mrs Tebow was  doing missionary work in the philipines kinda makes you realise that she believes in a much higher power... to the point she would rather die, so its completely understandable why he is her"miracle" but the issue of having an abortion was not something she would probably not have considered ever by herself, and so for that reason alone, her story isnt something that "regular" women face.
If they suggested an abortion to her in the phillipines, it must have been because it would have saved her life...as  Thorny says it has been against the law, even for doctors unless it was for the life of the mom.

Good point.

Ad Follies of the Super Bowl

CBS’s decision to accept an evangelical group’s anti-abortion commercial makes little sense after its rejection of a gay dating service ad.

I'll bet Tim was conceived in the missionary position.
