Well today this slave walked the dog, made soup, did three loads of laundry, picked up dry cleaning, changed the faucet on my kitchen sink, dressed up pretty for him and then did fun things as a result and then took a nap on the couch. I did all of that stuff because the dog had to pee and poop, soup was for dinner, clothes were dirty, dry cleaning was ready to be picked up, the kitchen faucet was broken, he requested the outfit, and I was tired.

Another aspect is to be used for the pleasure of the Master/Mistress or to do chores as required. Pleasure can come in many forms: humiliation, sexual, for executing pain as the will of the one in charge. Why? Because they want to serve, want to be used, and want that need to fulfill a role and capacity that has some very specific rewards involved for everyone concerned...especially the slave. The what they do is as simple as people have said in different ways, my preferred way of saying it, a slave is lead. Why? Because it makes them happy, it is the best relationship style for them, because they want to there are so many reasons, some not so pretty, I won't presume I know them all
