It seems the big GOP leader is whining again, this time about the stars who performed for the benefit concert for Haiti who won't go on his show or return calls.  But what he seems to forget is that the FOX network was the only major network who refused to air the program.

Seems like they do not like their own medicine.

Sure some will say ir's the liberal press, but what can you say when it is a video of the big leader himself?

He should be celebrating! Who'd want that "Hollywood" crew on your show anyway?

When was O'Reilly elected the head of the RNC ? When did he turn conservative at all ?

subrob1967 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 5:35:13 AM)

Fox did show it, Fox News didn't.

servantforuse -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 5:42:50 AM)

O'reilly is a registered independent.

Louve00 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 5:51:48 AM)

The Hope for Haiti Now program, sponsored by those "Hollywood" people, raised over 57 million so far, and still counting.  They will be taking donations for the next six months and 100% of the money you donate thru the Hope for Haiti cause goes directly to the ground on Haiti.  Unlike Red Cross, who is also a reputable and good source to donate to, but Red Cross uses (about) 25 cents on every dollar donated for administrative purposes.  My figures aren't spot on, but I take volunteer calls for both Red Cross, and did for the Hope for Haiti Now program.

**editted to add....I don't mean to derail this thread with off-topic bs, but those Hollywood folk have the bucks and morality to make the cause worthwhile for everyone. IMO.  O'Reilly, no matter what he's registered as, lost out when he chose not to support them.

Moonhead -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 6:10:42 AM)

That said, you do wonder if they could raise more money by donating themselves instead of staging a benefit concert to encourage people with less money than them to do so.

Louve00 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 6:22:51 AM)

Wellllll....aside from donating their talents during the drive itself, here's a short list of the ones I know donated.  And while I don't have the time to google them all to find out who donated what, a whole lot of celebrities have donated money as well as their time.....
Jennifer Aniston donates $500,000
Brad & Angelina donate $1M to Haiti
Diddy’s son donates birthday money to Haiti
Leonardo DiCaprio donates $1M to Haiti
Sandra Bullock donates $1M to Haiti

It is required that tele-solicitors inform you what percentage of your donation actually goes to the cause/s they are soliciting for, but only if you ask. I got a call from one of those "America's Fallen Heros" kind of places one day claiming to be raising money for the widows of law enforcement officers that had been slain while on duty. I asked the question. The answer that came back made my jaw drop. "Sir, 12% of your donation goes directly to the widows. And that's a high percentage!"

My point is that a 25% "administrative cost seems comparitively  low.

Fair enough. There's an unpleasant tendency over here for celebrities to view this sort of thing as free publicity that'll do them a lot more good than whatever charity they've sacrificed an afternoon for. Everybody remembers how Live Aid more or less raised Queen's career from the dead, after all.

Louve00 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 6:55:29 AM)

I do understand, Moonhead.  I feel the same way for that, as I do when people say Obama wanting to help is for his own political gain.  Let anyone who donates prosper from what they give.  This cause is so great and the Haitians benefit too, no matter.  In fact, the Haitians benefit more because what would they (the Haitians) do if everyone just sat back and analyzed how politically correct their actions to help were?

Isn't every conservative Republican these days?

Just like Glenn Beck and a few posters on this board who claim their impartiality while supporting every core conservative issue and every Republican talking point.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 7:50:10 AM)

How does one register independent anyway? I mean I see the benefits but isn't independent just another way of saying 'yeah I'll sit on the fence until someone fucks up'

Bill O'Reilly is about as independent as his hand is from his arm. Do we really believe he is independent? Calling yourself independent is a form of elitism i.e. 'oh no I don't believe what one side or the other says. I judge for myself using advanced statistical analysis of the economy and our war effort, I'm not a party man like you other mugs.'

I don’t mind admitting I’m not independent I can’t envisage a day where I’ll be voting conservative because there is a clear difference in terms of doing what is right for people as a whole rather than people as individuals. A couple of years ago the difference between parties was tiny perhaps but when times are hard the difference is always massive.

popeye1250 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 8:00:02 AM)

Hey, after this is over maybe we could get all these celebs to do a broadcast for homeless people in this country!
Bill O'Reilly; "Angelina Jolie, how many homeless people are there in California alone?"
"O.K. we'll give you a minute!"
"Cato Calin same question!" "Duh..............could you repeat the question?"

I believe she is attempting to adopt every child in haiti and other 3rd would countries.  Did anyone hear the rumor that she had an affair with one of her children 's teacher.  It was a long line at the checkout lane

Are you really? Do you really want to do "what is right for the people as a whole" or do you want to do what's right for the exceptions to the greater majority? The unemployed, the hungry, the homeless, the uninsured, are all minorities. The Individuals not in that situation are a much greater part of that "whole" and the efforts to socially engineer or redistribute from the greater whole to the exceptions is accomplishing one thing - creating more exceptions.

The question is, how much of the 'whole', who are under the exact same conditions not hungry, homeless, or uninsured, are you willing to sacrifice to do what you deem "right"? Why is it government's duty to serve as source of charity for these minority exceptions? What incentive is there for the minority to change their situation will they have when actions taken by government serve them better when they fail to provide for themselves, but encumber them by taxes and regulations when don't fail?

I'm not an independent either - I'm a member of the 'Pragmatist' party, actions and decisions taken by individuals or corporations deserve the consequences they earn. The 'whole' isn't benefited by its government when they use resources they don't have to provide charity for a minority of exceptions. That's the purpose of charities not government; and the reason they enjoy their tax exempt status.

Louve00 -> RE: O'reilly whines as FOX shuts door to AID (1/27/2010 8:16:37 AM)

I don't know about how many she's adopting in Haiti.  She already seems to be the big joke on the amount of children she has lol.  But I do believe her husband is in charge of rebuilding sound, hurricane proof homes for the people in NOLA who lost their homes.  He's put millions into the project last I heard.

I guess its like anything, I guess.  Nobody forces us to spend what extra we have on what causes are out there.  I guess celebrities pick their own causes too.  Its their money and their time

I am not sure how 100% of the proceeds can go directly to Haiti.  The telethon had virtually everything of a major call center tied up taking calls.  Their physical call centers and almost all of their home agents.  There were so many calls their entire system, which is extensive, was over loaded.  I do know they didn't volunteer their entire operation for the night and the workers were getting premium pay just to insure that enough people would be on the phones.

This I know because the female half here was getting paid for answering those calls.

1) Who's to say they didn't?
2) Obviously, far more money can be raised quickly this way.
3) Money was raised. Who cares which fingerprints are on the bills?

Haitians were helped. Fans enjoyed a concert. Pundits got to whine about it.

Everybody wins.

2. How much of my donation will go directly toward helping people in Haiti?
100 percent of all donations raised from the public will go directly to relief organizations on the ground in Haiti. No administrative costs or other program expenses are charged by "Hope for Haiti Now."

Sorry if the font came out huge.  I pasted it from the link above.  I knew the statistics because I too took calls.  She should have too, but its an easy enough fact to google, which I just did.  [:)]
