OK. I thought Chris Matthews "acted stupidly". How about that?

Well, I suppose it tells us something about how far we have come, when white conservative Republicans are the very first to leap into rage and indignation over a slight to black people. Even if black people themselves are not so fast to do the same.

I am quite sure that when this message of seething rage is pumped into the radios of millions of F-150 pickups with Confederate flags in the rear windows, the drivers will be pounding the steering wheel in anger, exclaiming "Damn right! SOMEBODY has to defend the honor of President Obama from scurrilous racist attacks!"

I mean, the only way that this argument could gain any more potency, would be if it were made by Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, (R, Confederate State of Alabama) named for not one, but two Confederate heroes. Or Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia, who last night gave his rebuttal to the State of the Union, while standing in the very same hall where Jefferson Davis gave his Inaugural Address.

Watch out Democrats! The Republicans are going to steal your base! And that ain't just whistlin' Dixie.

Almost during that hour I forgot he was black. during that hour he was almost white. Almost good enough. But alas not so.

Seems like he isn't one of those sheet wearing versions but the other kind. The ones that think of minorities as inferior to themselves. Let them eat cake. Throw a few bones to the dogs and be sure you are a good person. Sad. He seems to see Obama's presidency in terms of race. He isn't just the president. One of the many we have had, but a black president. Race, just like class is a tool sometimes used to divide the people. And they keep going back to it because it is effective.

" I was watching, I said, wait a minute, he's an African-American guy in front of a bunch of other white people. And here he is president of the United States and we've completely forgotten that tonight — completely forgotten it."

Relevant for the first few months of his presidency. But after that get to doing the people's business. All that historic shit needs to take a backseat to getting things done.

Among the things I like about NPR is that they generally cover the news, not the news casters. Today was no exception.

AND before someone chimes in about that being a liberal bias decision, what they DID cover was fact checking Obama's speech.

Guess what? One absolutely true, a couple of barely trues, but more not trues. Definitely not a supportive analysis.

Very nice attempt to redirect, Rex.  Love the Jeff Davis reference.

I heard the smug, condescending, liberal racist in those words.  This is the same fucking talking head who said it was his job to make sure President Obama succeeded.  Some claimed to have heard "boy" when that dumbass yelled "you lie" at Obama, behind Matthews words, I hear, "because, you know, they just aren't as good at things as we are.  We have to make allowances."  I find that kind of racism maybe even a little more offensive than the other kind.

Brain -> RE: "I forgot he was black"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME! (1/28/2010 8:24:51 PM)

What Matthews said is not important because he told the truth. Obama may as well be a white fat cat Wall Street banker, which would explain the lack of change and why he forgot. And IT IS true if you’re too black like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton you can’t become president.

Why would you assume their pigmentation is the problem?  I'm much more inclined to think they lost early and badly in the process because they are single issue assholes.

Blah Blah Blah...

Rex are your really this intellectually dishonest?

Here... from AOL's BlackVoices http://www.bvblackspin.com/2010/01/28/chris-matthews-msnbc-i-forgot-obama-was-black-for-an-hour/?ncid=webmaildl1

Oh and The Dixiecrats...

Strom Thurmand became a Republican.

How about the rest of them Rex?

Well...how about the other senators?

Harry F. Byrd (D-VA), 1933–1965
A. Willis Robertson (D-VA), 1946–1966
John C. Stennis (D-MS), 1947–1989
James O. Eastland (D-MS), 1941–1941, 1943–1978
Allen J. Ellender (D-LA), 1937–1972
Russell B. Long (D-LA), 1948–1987
Thomas Pryor Gore (D-OK), 1906–1921, 1931–1937
J. Lister Hill (D-AL), 1938–1969
John J. Sparkman (D-AL), 1946–1979
Spessard Holland (D-FL), 1946–1971
George Smathers (D-FL), 1951–1969
Olin D. Johnston (D-SC), 1945–1965
John McClellan (D-AR), 1943–1977
Richard B. Russell, Jr. (D-GA), 1933–1971
Herman E. Talmadge (D-GA), 1957–1981
Herbert S. Walters (D-TN), 1963–1964

Oh... Yikes.. Lifetime Democrats all. Some real winners there too huh? Talmadge, Eastland, Harry Byrd...paragons of New Deal Liberalism...but ah..they pretty much all were.

OK, surely the Dixcrat Governors became hateful Republicans right?

So let's they were...

Benjamin Travis Laney, Arkansas Governor
Fielding Wright, Mississippi Governor
Mills E. Godwin Jr. Governor of Virginia
Orval Faubus, Governor of Arkansa
Lester Maddox, Governor of Georgia
William H. Murray, Oklahoma Governor
Frank M. Dixon, Alabama Governor

Oh no... wow...more of those lifetime progressive New Dealers. Yeah, Fielding Wright Orval Faulbus, Lester Maddox...ugh...well. I tried.

Maybe some of their footsoliders... oh wait... yeah... I can't put you through that... Klan defenders, ardent segregationist, new deal progressives... but no Republicans.

Too Bad Rex.

AnimusRex -> RE: "I forgot he was black"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME! (1/28/2010 9:43:07 PM)

FDD, man, you are sharp!
Point well taken, the Democrats were chock full of racist bastards.

Well, not so much after the Republicans stole them away with the Southern Strategy after 1972.
But you know, I will give you guys credit.

If you all want to carry the banner for racial equality, who am I to argue? Go for it!

Seriously, I would love to see Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III arguing passionately to equalize crack and cocaine sentencing guidelines, I would love to see Jim Demint Julip pounding the desk to argue that we are encarcerating too many young black men, and especially, I want to see the GOP spearhead an effort to gain statehood for Washington DC.

As Rush Limbaugh would say, in Obama's America, the GOP fights for civil rights, while all the black kids on the bus stand and cheer, "raght own, raght own, raght own!"

Now there's some sniveling, liberal drivel. Before you go putting one of those confederate flags on my truck though, understand, I don't like either side. But I do recognize them when I see them.

Chris Matthews is a disgrace to his profession, to humanity in general. But you do the extremist thing and defend that which you should not and honestly, cannot defend. Do it by attacking the other side. do it by making excuses. Do it by painting an America full of F150 trucks toting Confederate flags for no other reason than to scream their racist rage to the world.

Gotta wonder where you live man, cause I have been in 10 different southern states in the past two weeks and not one of those millions of trucks existed anywhere I went.

Drivel.

I don't understand what the big deal is. I forget I'm black all the time. I'll be standing in line at Best Buy with a Billy Idol CD, and people will be looking at me funny, and I'll go, "Oh, shit! I thought this was Bootsy Collins! Here, hold my place in line, I'll be right back."

NihilusZero -> RE: "I forgot he was black"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME! (1/29/2010 12:58:50 AM)

In the context of the entire point he was relating to, it was slightly more understandable what he meant when he said those words.

However, they were words that, if you're in any sort of public limelight, you ought to know much better than to phrase in that way.

lronitulstahp -> RE: "I forgot he was black"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME! (1/29/2010 3:11:28 AM)

LOL....i find this whole story laughable. People "forget" i'm black all the time. [;)]
But trust me, with stories like this....and being the victim of actions like these....i don't.

What about Panda?... misrepresenting himself with a white bear?

I am offeneded..... more by the Billy Idol thing than the bear thing.
