Brain -> Don't Ask, Don't Tell has cost US taxpayers half a billion dollars (1/28/2010 2:04:38 AM)

I may be wrong but I don’t think Obama has done enough to get rid of this stupid policy.

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' has cost US taxpayers half a billion dollars

• Since its inception in 1994, the “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell” policy has cost the military between $290 million to more than a half a billion dollars.

• The military spends an estimated $22,000 to $43,000 per person to replace those discharged under DADT.

In other words, 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has never worked, and never will.
In the meantime, both Congress and the Pentagon have continued to drag their feet on the issue, despite prompting from President Obama, former U.S. Generals, and Congress to repeal the archaic law.

Dunno, but at least that has a strategic reasoning behind it(how ever silly it may be now)

I'm just relieved that in DADT there is finally something this administration will not be able to blame Bush for.

Without a change to the UCMJ, the policy change won't save the money you suggest it costs under the current policy. I think the DADT policy is failed for other reasons, but will limit my comments to the topic of what it has cost the US taxpayer in replacement and training costs.

I think much more would have been spent for replacements and trials without the DADT policy, simply because of the outdated sodomy regs of the UCMJ. Something needs to be changed, so that our men and women still in uniform can be open, honest, and not have to worry about disciplinary witch hunts.

We will see what happpens.

I wish you well,

There is no sensibly defensible reason for any such policy restricting gays in the military.

He’s not the type to get results so far, not enough real change, so I don’t expect much to happen with this first step.

Obama goes rogue: Promises swift end to 'Dont Ask, Don't Tell'

President Obama went against the advice of his top advisers in tonight's State of the Union address by saying, “I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country …
