I wasn't quite sure which forum to put this in, but figured this one would fit since it's well.. off topic! I am going to London, Bath, and Stratford for ten days and will be seeing all the regular tourist attractions during the day (British Museum, Keats' House, etc etc) so I was hoping for some insider tips from you all on what I could do there. Is there anything BDSM savvy? I am quite excited for my trip and hope to get some advice!

Status: offline 		How long are you spending where? London Stratford and Bath aren't really next door to each other.

Also, when will you be in bath? There are events in Bath and Bristol but it depends when you are going as to where you can go.

Status: offline 		Forget BDSM for 10 days and see the country youre visiting.

All the places you plan to visit have enough culture, that you wont fit it all in.

Add to where ever you plan to visit, trying the local night life. ie, a traditional british pub, chip shop. mix with the locals and forget kink for your holiday, you can get that at home.

Have never understood people going on holiday to do exactly what theyd do at home.

Status: offline 		Very true frazzle- I just know that London's scene is a lot more liberal than the US and I was hoping to experience that.

Status: offline 		1) dont think for one moment that what you are directed to see in these three places reflect real life in modern Britain
2) dont bring/ carry/ accept £50-00 notes; shops often dont, pickpockets often do. Avoid £20-00 notes for like reasons
3) watch out for pickpockets, especially diminutive ones with east European accents
4) forget fish and chips, which is nothing like it used to be unless you find a genuine old fashioned place
5) avoid kebab meat like the plague
6) get thee to a curry house (Muslim ones dont often sell booze but you can often bring your own)
7) do not drink mass produced beers; rather seek out real ales and sample in half pints to get a good range prior to falling over
8) do not buy anything, especially food, at motorway service stations 
9) carry an umbrella at all times; it only rains hardest when you dont have one
10) marvel at the "dressed by Oxfam" look in vogue in the UK for many years

London isn't as 'liberal' as you might think!  But it really does depend when you are here because there are fet markets and clubs, but without knowing dates, we cannot help you.

There is a Shibari weekend in Feb sometime I think?  Again, dates help!

Lkie Lilly said London is not close to Bath or Stratford (I am guessing you men on Avon and not the London postcode one), so prepare to travel.

But do the London Eye at least.

Status: offline 		Hi all, thanks for the replies :) I am quite excited for the trip. I will definitely keep your pointers in mind, E! I will be there late March. I'm counting down the days! There's a literature festival in Bath two days before I get there.. poo.

I'm going to London for like 5 days, Bath for 3 and Stratford-Upon-Avon for 1. I think I'm most excited about Bath.

Status: offline 		Your best bet is probably to sign up to http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/uk/event_dates/
and set parameters to show events within 150 miles of postcode B1 - this will include London and Bath; Stratford is about 20 miles from B1 

You will then get weekly emails with all events listed including munches, play events and markets

If you want to change your settings or stop receiving these weekly emails,
please sign-in to http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/ using your membername
and password and then go to Your Settings then Memo/Email Settings.

Bear in mind that airport security is tight on the way back home and adjust your purchases/acquisitions to stuff you are willing to explain.

Status: offline 		Ok, Bath is lovely you obv have to see the pump rooms and all that stuff have tea there too, its just so british. There is a lovely little cinema around the corner from the pump rooms, it shows the more prestigious current releases and art house films which if you are into movies you have to see, the park is beautiful too, and walcott street sells the strangest things ever. The holburn gallery is certainly worth a look, and the architecture in bath is breath taking. If you are excited though I am sure that you know what you want to do, end of march isnt really dates though so as for events I cant tell you anything.

Edit to add, Ellen is a little doom and gloom on the subject, I have had some lovely fish and chips, £20 notes are fine, Kebabs are ace after a pint of carlsburg which is lush, I never carry and umbrella and I dont think anywhere can claim to have a bigger percentage of glamorous people, all the things I have mentioned I do in bath all the time, I work there so it manages to get an accurate picture of my modern britain

Not quite.

It's true about the DUI but not that the guy lost his licence because here in the UK DUI means 'Driving Under Instruction' which under the Women Drivers Act 2002 allows married women to teach their husbands how to drive without requiring an instructor.

Women are allowed to drive cars, ambulances, and buses but may not drive white vans or lorries.

Also our Road Safety Act 2002 makes us the only European country to forbid a US President or politician from driving in the UK as it is believed some of them have difficulties differentiating between left and right.

Status: offline 		When in London , go to the Tate Gallery and see Constable, Van Gogh and numerous others in the canvas - so to speak. Its huge, so i chose to view the (semi-) modern art. It was absolutely awesome.
I also went to Harrods, just for the fun of it. Amazing store.
and I HAD to see the statue of Peter Pan in Kensington Park!

I got to see "the phantom of the opera" and "Joseph and his technicolor dreamcoat" in one day - very incredible. I would recommend seeing a show.

I found the underground the easiest way to get around, even if i missed a bit of scenery - but then , i did a bus tour of the sites in London not to be missed.

Loved London, would love to go back there again for more than a week.
