So the day has come where Tony Blair stands before the Chilcott inquiry, and so far it is reported he was in charge of proceedings during the morning's questioning. I just watched a bit of that on the Mid day news, and I saw something which reminded me of an ex work colleague, someone I had forgotten about until now, Blair's body language, he did something I have seen before in this ex work colleague. What Blair did, was after saying his piece when questioned, he followed by nodding his head, as if he is trying to sell his version as truth. The ex work colleague was a salesman who was very unscupulous in his sales technique, he lied and sold crap to people, a good salesman, he got the figures, but his customers never came back, which was a dilemma, because my side of the business, my customers came back, he was ruining my side of the business. Anyway, Blair to me has come across this time as someone uncertain, but trying to be convincing, all I see in his actions is liar, from past experience with similar people based on experience.

What do others think, do you see anything other than the words that exit his lips ?

Typical performance from someone who has been trained to deal with the media. You could tell he was better prepared than Straw had been. At least he admits he was going to deal with Saddam if needed. This, without consulting the House of Commons.

K I just spent 20 minutes watching (hell of a chore) ten minutes with the sound on , ten minutes wateching and listening to him,
Hes trying hard, but failing dismally at covering up his body language,  hes a politician, its SOP
but then I was biased against him anyway, so mine is  not really a fair assessment

Was a good performance, makes you realise how good a politician he actually was in terms of presenting his views about things. People should not be so shocked he did well, he kind of rises to these occasions rather than fears them. His evidence didn't really have an effect one way or another and all the things mentioned were already public domain.

Interesting that Blair asked the board a question, it being if he and his pal had not implemented regime change in Iraq, he asked as though stating that Iraq would have re armed by now and attacked the west. I personally find that unbelievable, as how would Iraq rebuild it's stock piles of WMD's with the west looking over their shoulder and possibly weapons inspectors visiting from time to time, not to forget the US's arsenal of surveillance satellites parked over the country.

The other thing that came out of the inquiry, was the widows and bereaved serviceperson's family expected an apology, Blair did not give them one, that has raised a fair amount of anger to add to the feeling that appears to be in this country.

I am just wondering though, his conversion to catholicism, I wonder if he has confessed his sins and done his pennance, if so as far as god is concerned, he is in the clear, he called on god when he was trying to sell the invasion before it all happened, is it possible he thinks as long as god has forgiven him, no one else matters.

This is an aspect I don't understand because service personnel don't pick and choose which wars to fight, they just go where they are sent. How are some wars worth dying for but others not; who is judging this and with which criteria?

It's a bit like saying all the German soldiers that died in world war two died for nothing because they ultimately lost the war. We however don't see this loss of life differently to the loss of life on our side; it is one and the same thing human tragedy. Those that died in Iraq didn't die for nothing in a way because the whole thing was so ghastly it'll be a long time until the next war of that nature. Perhaps if less on our side had died then the next war of that nature would be in the next couple of years. The reality of war serves to force politicians to seek alternative ways and means.

Sad people tend to forget the lessons of history and the only thing that reminds them of it is suffering in the present time, this is only the latest war to end all wars. It'll end wars for ten years perhaps and then some new suffering through war will occur.
