Termyn8or -> Battle of the sexes, now on TV court ! (1/30/2010 10:08:36 AM)

As many may know I repair big TVs. As such TVs do operate at work, for me strictly for testing purposes, I largely ignore it, but there are times.......

So it's regular network TV from the digital box, which is good because it makes it easy to tell if the problem is in the reciever or the source, but that winds up on either TV court shows or Springer or other total junk.

But I have noticed something on these court TV shows, well over half of the cases, I mean like maybe 80% are Women suing Men for money they had lent them. So many different scenarios exist. She got him a car or a cellphone. She cosigned. She loaned him money for a downpayment. She paid all the bills. She did this and that.

All the time. This is a foreign concept to me, because Women married into my family do not work at a job, at least not for sustenance. But others differ and I can understand that and that our way is archaic. Regardless of the fact that things go my way in my pervue, others do not see it the same way. The mentality is hard to explain.

But the main question is, why is it always Women putting up the money for things and Men, or supposed Men turning around and trying to call it a gift ? Then they say some dumb shit like "She just wants the money back because I left her".

Are Men really that sharp or are Women that gullible ? What is it ? What has happened here ? Are Women the only ones in this country who actually simultaneously hold a credit card AND a valid driver's license ? Is it that Men are really so incorrigable(sp) that they rarely have both, which are required to rent or lease a car for example ?

In other words, are Men becoming gold diggers ? Or are we just drunken sailors. We make a thousand a week, live with a Woman on welfare with six kids and have to borrow a couple of thousand off them, and then not pay it back ? Is that what this has come to ?

Mind you I have no desire to watch this shit, but it does catch my attention at times. And as much as people may hate Judge Judy, she does have a way. Id est "If she gave you three thousand why did you pay back one thousand if it was a gift ?". Judgement for plaintiff for two thousand, goodbye.

I am trying to better understand the social dynamic here. Any insight ?

I know of 2 households in my area that for various reasons it is easier for the woman to work and the husband not to.  I thought maybe the public prefers a pretty face... that maybe - that is what that is about.

It floors me that people think they "have to have a cell phone".

Yet- when my grandparents would buy chicken out- he always went in- to place the order- as they got bigger portions that way.  I found that hard to beleive until the day a friend got  a job at the chicken place.

Anyhow- the happy couple is now playing the Jerry Springer boob tube loser crowd-  ride home from the show all happy in the car the show just paid for.

If anyone other then Term- understood this post- I will be surprised.

I've talked to a Russian or two before the fall of the USSR. They said that it was more common there for the Woman to work than the Man in a household. Whatever conditions existed there at the time obviously exist here now.

That makes me a dinosaur I guess.

Russia has a man shortage in large part due to wars- and them being killed off- so woman outnumber the men.

As a result- the available men can be fuck offs and bums and due to being is short supply - they get away with it.

its almost impossible to go without one nowadays, certainly regarding a social life (I suppose thats less of an issue if you've a family or a homebird), but punctuality is dead now that mobiles exist and its complicated even to meet up for a few drinks on the weekend without one.

I got thru 40+ years of life- just fine with out a cell phone.  It is possible... even in some ways a simpler life is better.  Tho when I was a kid it was a big thing to have a 2nd phone- as they charged for each ringer.  lol

Have you been watching Oprah ? She will bash men at every opportunity.

Termyn8or -> RE: Battle of the sexes, now on TV court ! (1/31/2010 12:18:05 PM)

HA I bash Men, or supposedly Men. Regardless of my innate sexism let's say Man just means an adult of this species. Do you borrow money from a partner and not pay it back because you broke up ? Then claim it was a gift because you were together but still paid part of it back, but now all the sudden it's a gift ?

I just had to laugh at the one last week. They were a couple, Woman offers to loan him money for fines, reinstatement all that. He refused because he had no job and knew he couldn't pay her back. So later he gets a job prospect and takes her up on the offer. They split up and all the sudden it retroctlively became a gift. What ?

I mean if I owe, I owe. If it's due and I don't have it right now, that's my bad (in the contrmporary vernacular) and it's not a good thing. It has happened believe it or not ! But I wouldn't try to hem and haw my way out of it. Others apparently think people just give away thousands of dollars for love, or lust ? If they get their money that way, IMO they are a two bit whore. And I mean that in the worst possible way for both genders.

Seems to me people are not too smart. They will fuck over someone who is willing to help them out, I wonder if they have considerecd fucking over those who are unwilling to help them out. Oh, wait, usually the reason they do it to their friends is because they already can't get a cellphone or a loan. There is a reason for that.

Having been here awhile I've learned a few things. One is that male supremacy in societies past was not universal to say the least. Fast forward to the good ole 1960s or something like that. Man go work, bring home paycheck. "Honey, need about a hundred". Woman goes to bank, deposits/cashes check bring Man mad money and commence to writing checks for the bills, do the shopping and all that. Fair enough since a full time job eats up half of his waking hours. But then they split up.

Used to be he would still have credit and she would not. But now divorced Men have terrible credit usually. I think the reason is that we don't keep track of things very well. When I had someone to take care of that I was never late on anything. When I had to start handling it myself, I found out all about it. So in a way depending on anyone else makes you dependent. It's cost me real money to have a messy desk, bills under the keyboard running late as the money to pay them is right there in my pocket. I'm to the point now if I have more money than I think I should I worry about it. I must have missed something. Now that's pretty fucking bad.

Life is a trip, but just think of the destination.

- foot stomp!

I know a whole lot of heterosexuals- that are SO messed up.  The list is endless.

lol.   Life is strange- and real is stranger then fiction.

Still these people get paid to make a fool of themself on TV.    Would you do so?   At what price?

Maybe at one time I would have.  But these days- I very much would not want to be the freak show.

hlen5 -> RE: Battle of the sexes, now on TV court ! (1/31/2010 12:41:06 PM)

A few things -

I can't do without my cell phone because it's my only phone (broadband cable for my pc).

I don't think women are the only gullible ones when it comes to money and their honey( I myself wouldn't consider dating someone without a job or a driver's license). Men can be plenty dumb too. The most outrageous example I can think of is a guy I used to work with. He adored his new wife. She would make him cinnamon rolls to bring to work to share with his coworkers. He was a handy guy and his wife told him "As soon as the house is redone, I'm going to divorce you." She did. The audacity of some people amaze me.

Like you Terminator, I can't believe some of the scenarios on the court TV shows. Remember when they vet the litigants (constestants!)for the show, they will probably only pick the most sensational people.

I made it till 2003 without one, when I was about 26, but it gets to the point where people just think you're an eccentric for not having one.. and for better or worse the general behaviour has changed because of them. I lost my phone at the glastonbury festival a couple of years ago and spent the best part of 3 days alone after that (the place is vast and just walking 50 metres you lose your friends in the crowds) because its impossible to keep contact people any other way.
