I am a single male and not the most experienced in this lifestyle. I admit I have much to learn, as far as BDSM goes. This being said, I am not a complete moron. I find it extremely hard to believe that more than half of the profiles on CM are REAL people trying to meet someone or talk to someone in this lifestyle. I realize that many pro Dommes may have some pictures professionally done but many of these profiles are using a pic they got from who knows where. I must get about 10 e-mails a week from women that look, according to their pictures, like they just stepped off a Hollywood movie set. I know it is total BS when a 21 year old tells me she wants me to be her slave. I know there are scammers and people trying to be something they are not but I never thought there would be so many fakes. I understand many don't want to post pictures publicly. I am the same way but if I meet someone and believe we have a connection I will be happy to share some pictures. What amazes me is how obviously fake most of these profiles are.

Fake profiles happen everywhere, unfortunately. I wouldn't let it bother you, just weed them out.

It does not bother me but I can't get over the amount of them. Just while I was writing this post a got three e-mails from different 21 year olds that look like models. They all want me to go to yahoo and look at pictures of them. Yeah right!  The funny part is they were probably all sent by the same person.

LOL more than likely.

I moderate in the Faker's forum of a rating site and I am constantly deleting fake profiles with my co-mod (with good proof mind you, we don't delete profiles because people say they're fake)

I know it can be frustrating when you're on a site trying to find an honest person who has the same interests as you and all you come across are fakes and liars.

If it's free, it's often fake.

There isn't much you can do about it. If they required credit-card verification, then maybe there'd be fewer fakes, but, face it, the spamscammers would still figure out a way around it just like how they figured their way around captcha and telephone verification.

Best way, I've found, is to set your age filter high, say a minimum of 32 (the spamscammers seem to cluster around the twenty-something age category), keep your filters LOCAL (say down to 25 miles or less), which in and of itself will not only drop your number of spamscammers down drastically, but which will net you the same 20 people over and over again, which, after a while, you can see who is a spamscammer and who isn't.

Also, you can limit yourself to people who actually post in the forums and journals - but by then you may be limited to about 3 people in toto.

You don't say whether you reported those emails.  Did you?

As Elizabeth says, this is by no means limited to CM.  I primarily date off a different site, and I report scamspam every time I log in there.  Long term, I think there is going to be an increase in internet spam, as the US and African economy both look to worsen, not improve.  So please report, report, report, and then go about your day.

Is there a full moon or what? I have never seen so many 1st time posters publish fakers threads before than the past week or so.

Does admin need to create a Fakers/Nigerians/Warnings section?

I personally think there are a lot of sincere profiles as only 10 show current users show up on my radar in the US. As I said long a ago, I think I should move to Nigeria where everyone is an 18 to 28 year old breedable poly/bi/African American slave.

I do report these scammers whem I get e-mails from them. I also block them but that does no good. I am sure they will be back with another profile soon enough. I just find it extremely strange when a hot 21 year old e-mails me out of the blue and wants to "get to know me". I am 38 and my days with 21 year olds have been over for quite a while. Some of the fake profiles are not even after money. They just want some kind of attention, any kind. What I find so hard to believe is that these clowns really think they have people fooled. Annoyed yes, fooled no.

The irony is that the new posters have no idea they are spamming the forums -- the exact behavior they are complaining about.  And I agree with you: there are far more nonscammer profiles than scammer profiles.

Eagerslave1, if your days with 21-year-olds are over, you could modify your email filter so only people of a certain age and above could email you.  That would reduce annoying traffic in your inbox.

People need something to complain about. You have to remember, these types of threads were pulled in the past. Now we actually deal with them and move on, which should be good advice to the OP.

Nah. That would just encourage discrimination against the Nigerians. Btw, I deal with Nigerians in my work. Lovely people.

I'd also like to clarify another misconception. The reason there are so many fake profiles is not because Collarme is free. It is because this is the Internet and it is easier to be fake. The fact that there is no charge to sign up for this site makes it more appealing to scammers as it keeps their expenses down. But it is also appealing to regulars who enjoy having a no fee place to meet kinky people.

So lets keep this all in perspective shall we? And focus on the positive.

To the OP: You might not realise this, but you came to a forum populated by Real People who discuss Real Issues. We live daily with this fake profile situation and we've learned to not get our panties in a twist over it. We just enjoy each other's company here.

I'd like to welcome you to the boards and invite you to discuss kinky things. You'll find you'll have real conversations with real people.

Thank you Lady Angelika. I appreciate the insight. I have changed my mail filters and something really funny happened. The spammers look 21 in their pictures but they are actually older in their profiles.LOL. I do also realize that most who take the time to post in these message boards and talk about issues are real people. I again thank everyone for the input and responses.

LA, I'm sure many folk from Nigeria are good folk, but if I see a profile from there, 99% of the time, it's bullshit.

OP, it's not that you recently signed up... I have no idea why you're looking at an uptick in spam.  I haven't seen it worse than usual lately.  I'm a Dom, so I get spam slave girl profiles myself.
