MzMia -> Thoughts on the President's fiscal year 2011 budget? (2/1/2010 4:05:00 PM)

Thought someone would have already started this thread, humm here goes.
I just read the President's fiscal year 2011 budget.
Here is a link to today's speech.
Remarks by the President on the Budget | The White House

President Obama wants a very large investment in clean energy, 6% increase to the Department of Education, he wants to stimulate job creation by giving tax cuts to small businesses and tax incentives for small business owners to hire new workers, freeze most government spending {except defense},  and start to rein in the budget deficit.

Thoughts on the 2011 budget?

Democrats are going to have to admit we need to redo Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Republicans are going to have to admit we need to raise some tax revenue.

Everyone is going to have to admit we're spending money we don't have on two pointless wars and expensive homeland security theater, neither of which makes us any safer.

None of this is going to happen.

no news is good news.

Pretty much the size of it. What SS, Medicare, wars and taxes all have in common is they are easily demagogued, highly emotional topics that play on our worst fears.

Sooner or later a Chinese central banker is going to write a budget, hand it to the President, and tell him to pass it or else.

Does that say, "No ticket, no shirt?"
Okay, I am being bad.

I just want to see if this budget creates jobs.

This country is headed for a fiscal train wreck. The reason banks aren't lending money to the public sector is they are lending it to the Federal Govt. for a federally insured 3% interest rate..No risk for them, no money left to loan to small business..

Headed for? are you rip van winkle?
We have been "headed for" the next Depression, for almost 3 years, now.

Where the hell have you been?

But Lucy, didn't you get the memo?
Everything was damn fine, UNTIL President Obama was elected.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Bush's last budget had a deficit of 450 billion. In 2 years it will be 3 times that amount. That is not the fault of the previous administration.

A shame you weren't complaining about the same while Bush doubled the national debt.

President Obama's $3.8 Trillion Budget

President Obama will send a $3.834 trillion budget to Congress today for Fiscal Year 2011.

By way of comparison, the FY2010 budget was $3.721 trillion; the FY2009 budget, presented by President George W. Bush, was $3.518 trillion.

Musicmystery -> RE: Thoughts on the President's fiscal year 2011 budget? (2/1/2010 6:56:37 PM)

Or when Obama came in to a leftover budget with a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit.

What alternative universe do you live in? The Fed Funds rate is 1/2%

And not to mention that Animus is right---the days when we owed the debt to ourselves is long since past.

Without China, we'd be in that train wreck already.

There are certainly those that want to oppose whatever President Obama
plans or wants to do.

President Obama is in great shape, and he will be ready to rumble for his next
big fight in the ring.

Obama's budget draws battle lines for weeks ahead - CNN.com

AnimusRex -> RE: Thoughts on the President's fiscal year 2011 budget? (2/2/2010 8:58:08 PM)

The next big fight won't be over the budget- there are too many self-interested Republicans who want a piece of that 3.8 Trillion dollar pie.

The next big fight is going to be over immigration reform.

I want a seat on the front row for that one!
I will certainly turn in to C-Span.

That's a nice piece of common ground you've found there, Muse.  I'll just hop right up on it with you.
