i've just found out, well not RIGHT now, earlier actually that i am a descendent of one of the Kings of ireland.  My mother is in Ireland and decided to trace the routes.  King Leinster from the 1170's.  He actuallly had a castle i'm impressed.  Moms saying that if its true then we're also related to Strongbow and she asked me if i remember him from Brave heart which i dont.. so poo.  Strongbow gave his daughter to the King or some jazz like that.

Hey i think its cool.  i should go to ireland and demand a title or something.  <wicked grin>   Or <even more wicked grin>  Demand to be Queen LOL as i'm a descendent of a king.  Wouldnt that just be hilarious.  <grins> i think just the thought of demanding it is hilarious too.  = )  Imagine some american standing before the council in dublin demanding to be made queen.. its absurd!  i can see the council frowning and thinking "what the hell is this girl on"

Good stuff.  Rack up 2 good family things as i know also that the founders of houstan are in my line too.

Geneology is very interesting stuff. I am descended (illegitimately) from King Gorm the Old of Denmark (my family name is derived from "Gorm's Man", a usage that apparently implied a bastard son), and also from the original Mayflower Pilgrims...Desire Howland, the first child born at Plymouth Plantation, married my ancestor Ralph Gorham.
I am also related to one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution...Nathaniel Gorham. Confusingly enough, my direct ancestor was Nathaniel's cousin, a Loyalist also named Nathaniel.

I think I'm descended from a line of people who decided prison was a valid career choice, at least on my Dad's side.  Other than that, eh, who knows?  I had a couple of relatives (my Granny's cousins, on my Mom's side) who were able to trace our ancestry back to the fourteenth century.  Unfortunately, they and my Granny hate each other and they won't share what they found.

It's pretty cool that you're descended from an Irish king, though.  I've always had a strong draw to Ireland and Scotland, as that's were most of my family is from.  We have some French and Native American thrown in over the past couple centuries for good measure, but the majority is still Celtic.  Make sure you get a copy of whatever geneology work your Mom's doing.  It's an awesome thing to have around.

Apparently one of my ancestors was hung for piracy on the high seas. (Is there such a thing as piracy on the low seas? Is it a lesser cime? ::giggle::)

My favourite story about my ancestors though, is one my grandfather told me. It was all about some red-headed jewish, warrior, ancestors who fought and defeated the Celts. This was just after the Alzheimers really kicked in, though, and I'll admit I'm dubious. [sm=biggrin.gif]

My grandmother was into the geneology thing, my mom used to tell of when she was a little girl in St Louis, MO, and very bored with her mothers tea parties and all her fur clad,  gossiping "friends".  Grandma was explaining about how we were related to William Penn.  My mother stood up where she was playing quietly in a corner of the room and asked, "Mother, are you going to tell about the 2 horsethieves who were hung for stealing the mayors horses?"

She said all the ladies gasped, grandma turned deep purple as they all strutted out the door, leaving grandma staring at mom in disbelief.  (Out of the mouth of babes!!)  Mom was about 4 years old then.

Moms father was a printer in Nebraska or Missouri, was Chief, of the Choctau Tribe.

Mom and Dad used to argue which one was Lace Curtain, and which was Shanty Irish, It was pretty funny to us kids.

On Dads side (McCarthy) we are decended from royalty, and the Blarney Castle (Blarny Stone and all) once belonged to the family before loosing it to, I forget who, in a war of some sort.

We are descendants from Catherine de Medici and direct descendants from Peter Navarre who fought with General Anthony Wayne and brought the famous message-- " We have met the enemy and he is ours"--he was close friends with Tecumseh and was responsible for spiriting away Tecumseh's body to protect it from mutilation.

It's formally "piracy in the littoral waters."  The punishment is the same but the enforcement is different.  On the high seas, every sea-going nation as authority to act against pirates.  In littoral waters, it's the responsibility of the nation whose border is proximate.

Here is another maritime one.... "Was dead reckoning ever alive?"

Well.... haven't went too far back, but I can lay claim to a very recognizable, old Italian name from San Francisco, which gave birth to more than just a few politicians. HAR!!

Buffalo Bill Cody, Geronimo, one famous lady who was involved in the Salem Witch Trials (yes, know all the jokes), 3 guys who were instrumental in the American Revolution and several others from that period in politics and the furthest back known was in the East Riding Of Yorkshire in 1292.
