BoiJen -> Scott Roeder, George Tiller, and Warren Hern: A realistic look at later term abortions (2/2/2010 1:16:41 PM)

On Friday, January 29, 2010, Scott Roeder, the man who gunned down late term abortionist Dr. George Tiller in May of 2009 while he ushered at his church service, was found guilty of 1st degree murder. I only await the chance to see such a man charged for domestic terrorism.

For those who don't understand the value of such a specialized area of medicine, there is only one late term abortion doctor left in the United States and he works in Kansas. Dr. Warren Hern has seen 8 of his colleagues killed, he's been kidnapped, he's constantly threatened with violence, and to protect him, his staff, and the great need of his clients, his office comes complete with triple layer bullet proof glass and armed US Marshals. Dr. Hern has developed a "sea weed" proceedure that causes minimal disruption to a woman's body.

For those who believe that such an offer is "inhumane", "murder", or "abortion on demand", please do your research. Dr. Hern was quoted in some of the reasons he would perform a later term abortion, "One was Down's syndrome, another was a lethal brain abnormality along
with a lethal heart abnormality. Another one had a catastrophic… we're
not talking about cleft lip, we are talking about cleft face. There was
no face." He also goes on to cite incidents where the fetuses had no kidneys or failed to develop large sections of the brain. He also cites an incident where he turned down a girl for a delayed abortion because she simply waited too long to decide to have the procedure.

Feel free to read the lengthy article of this man's fears and passions entitled "The Last Abortionist" at http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jan/24/warren-hern-america-late-abortion

Dr. Hern cites that he and Dr. George Tiller held many of the same beliefs in terms of their professions. God bless George Tiller and Warren Hern and their tremendous hearts to be able to withstand such horrific work in the name of patient safety and care. And may Scott Roeder and all those who support murdering health care providers as a "fix" to the "abortion problem" of the United States rot in hell.

These doctors are heroes - they should be allowed to work in peace, without the constant threat of violence from the nutcases.

In another life, maybe *sigh*.

This is no more a terrorist attack than the Underwear Bomber's failed attack was.

According to AG Holder, there are no terrorists, only criminals.

I was pleased to see Scott Roeder convicted.  I am deeply saddened that anyone would approve of Roeder's actions.

Let me say this to all the anti-abortion folks out there:  Why not eliminate the reasons and circumstances that would cause a woman to make such a difficult decision.  Don't just call a woman selfish and her doctor a murderer.  If you believed in a God of love, then you would do something to make birth control more affordable, educate women on how to get out of or not enter into abusive relationships.  The #1 health threat to a pregnant woman is murder (her murder.  This is a fact!  Provide non-judgemental services to pregnant women.  Provide help, support, training, things like diapers, formula, clothes.  Take an interest in a child post-partum not just antepartum.

By focusing hatred on services like Planned Parenthood, many so-called pro-life people have done away with inexpensive or in some cases free birth control, health services, education and support.  They have not replaced these desperately needed services with anything other than hatred and violence.

Regarding the conviction of Roeder, at least 12 reasonable people were able to make the right decision.

You people are all too too kind.Give him life in prison put him in a 8'x10' cell constructed of steel with a shower toilet and lights he will be fed beans and water three times a day. He can have any book to read he wants. The door will be welded shut and he will have monitors to tell when he dies when this come the door will be cut open and his body removed for cremation this should happen to all killers and death penalty cases.all terrorist domestic and foreign then let them be viewed 24/7 on the internet. They will receive no medical treatment or pain medication. they are there at the mercy of nature god if they die of [pneumonia OK, diabetes OK,and what ever kills them they die of it naturally.

It was gratifying to me that despite his lawyers trying to get a justification defence in the trial the jurors were out for only a half hour which seems to indicate that not a single juror was even slightly swayed by this terrorist's claims.
