I saw this on the news last night. It automatically made me think....I have to have some of those to put on our christmas cards. See, how many comments we get. How many people even notice the stamps on the mail?

I will find out soon enough.

Yes, it is real postage.

I SAW those! LOL

They would be really great if you sent a photo Christmas card and had the same pic on the stamp.

If you seriously get some of thses stamps please let me know.

Take care,

Those are really cool, but too pricey for me. $16.99 for 20 stamps (.37 ones)vs 7.40 for regular ones, when most people probably won't notice.

I know especially when you just "know" some won't be used at all. I mean after all they have your photo on them.
However, the price didn't stop me. I ordered 3 sets. One of Doug and I on one of our vacations. One of him...his uncle and grandma. One of he and his dad.
All photos will be special. I'm going to try for shock value by mailing ourselves a photo first. Just to see if he notices.

Although right now...the order is stalled "pending photo approval"

I've heard about this too. Timbuk3 will have to reunite and change their song, "Everybody wants to be on a postage stamp, but nobody wants to die."

Just another way to pay 'taxes' to support the gvt. I'm not buying any. The post office does such a piss poor job, why pay extra so they can lose and misdirect more mail. When my mother was alive, I wrote her a good bit. Took a week for a letter to go 100 miles. It could have ridden a bicycle up there in that length of time.

I think scening pics would be a Federal offense breaking some pornography laws.

It would be neat to know what you could get away with though... something that on inspection is completely innocent, but at a quick glance makes you think of something else.

Compes.

To me, the stamp is far less important than the message.

But I am one of the breed who individualize X-mas cards....

To answer your question, Gloria, i guess i am one of the few who always notices the stamp. I love it when my friends from around the world send me letters with interesting stamps on them. And i always make sure that the stamps on my letters can represent my aesthetics or intentions.

Agreeing with Sinergy. When I mail cards for any occassion, they are personalized, full of "catching up" news. I don't enjoy the ones that are just signed or worse have their names printed. Even with a picture of them on the front, all I do is glance at it before opening up the card to read the personal message. Sundew

Have you ever considered "making" your own cards? I bought a kit last christmas. Complete with a couple of hundred stickers and sayings. For me, if the only gift you will receive from me this year is going to be the card. I want it to show it. I seriously thought I was the only one out there who tried to personalize such things.

Sort of puts me in the holiday spirit.

If anyone was interested in purchasing some. So far, everyone has noticed the stamps, even without mention from myself.

Dear gloria,

The PhotoStamps program was available to the public under a market test with authorization by the US Postal Service. As of midnight (PST) September 30, 2004, we will cease taking orders in order to allow the Postal Service to conduct its review of the program. If you wish to create amazing holiday cards, unforgettable birthday invitations, special baby announcements, or a very unique gift, this could be your last chance to order!

We will be accepting orders up to tomorrow, September 30th at midnight, Pacific Time and will ship those orders over the following days. All PhotoStamps postage is considered valid US postage and can be used at any point in the future. Please note that the ceasing of orders affects only the PhotoStamps program and in no way impacts the regular Stamps.com PC Postage product or the Stamps.com online store.

The USPS has informed us that they plan to make a decision on the future of the PhotoStamps program within the next 90 days. If you wish to express your interest in seeing the program continue, it would be extremely helpful. You may write to the following person:

Nick Barranca, VP Product Development
United States Postal Service
475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Room 5012
Washington, DC 20260-5012

Also, if you wish, a letter to your representative in Congress could be very effective. In your letters, be sure to explain how you used the postage and what it meant to you or your friends and family to be able to include your own photo on valid US postage.

From everyone here at PhotoStamps, we want to say thank you for supporting our product. The response has been overwhelming - and we have all been impressed by the fun, creative, and exciting ways you chose to use PhotoStamps.

Thank you,

The PhotoStamps Team

I notice stamps. I especially like the ones around holidays. But I am a bit of a freak, always looking for a drawing I can use to make something else. :)

Yep, they shut it down the day they sent me that last letter. The 30th of September or something. Not sure yet if they will return. Just makes the sets I purchased more special. Almost instant collectors items.

Although, I cannot imagine the post office not endorsing this program in the long run. All they have to do is have a way to verify the stamps are stamps from them. Perhaps a UPC code or something a machine can read. Spit out the bad ones(counterfeit) send along the good ones.
The stamps with postage equal out to about a buck a stamp. That is a whole lot of money in the post office's pocket that nobody will ever use. Some sure, but we all know you would end up keeping some for sentimental reasons.
So, I imagine the program will be back up and running. I'll keep you posted they send me e-mails periodically.
