ORIGINAL: HisSweetElysium As we say in the industry, everyone gets the tattoo they deserve. Sorry to sound so snide, but you have no idea how many "my boyfriend did it" tattoos I've seen covered up. A talented artist commands 150-250 an hour for a reason and it is NOT something you can just buy on ebay and pick up and have any sort of skill or appreciation for the technique, mechanics or simple sterility that goes in to a professional tattoo! My sisters soon to be husband (damn her shes younger than me too) is a tattoo artist, he has done a lot of hers and she did one for him, he is covered, she did magic eight balls up the back of his leg, the first one is totally wonky and they gradually get better, he wouldn't cover it because of what it was about, trusting someone enough to let them permanently mark you not much different from having a cutting done. Different people have different motivations for their tattoos, for some its about the art, for others its about the meaning. I think letting your partner do a section is a lovely idea.
