Afghanistan and US Policy

Has anyone else read this?? It's written by the young woman that was elected to Afghan's Parliment.

I highly recommend it. It's depressing and invgorating all at once. Sometimes youth is NOT wasted on the young ( Maybe that's WHY she is so brave).

Well, in case you didn't realize why there is no discussion ... there is no link.

The bolded subtitle was a shameless bump. I was asking if anyone had read the book "A Woman Among Warlords". No one has said they've read it yet.  I had hoped to generate discussion of the book and the assertions of the author, Malalai Joya (Scribner Publishers, Oct 2009).

Never heard of it.

...for general edification.

However, i find it rather amazing that so few people have heard of this woman....and a pretty strong indictment of the idea that the West is in Afghanistan rebuilding a nation. This womans story is one of the most important stories to come out of that sad place in recent years.

Here's an excerpt from the book and interview from NPR.

It does sound interesting and I remember hearing the interview on NPR/Talk of the Nation.

I've seen her on the tube; she's very brave, doing what she has.

I have one of my crazy theories about that, Phil, but she made it onto the print schedule this year, didn't she?

What an awesome, inspiring, smart and brave young woman!

I would love to learn more about her, and the Afghan Parliament.

I have never thought youth was wasted on the young.
One of my favorite expressions is "There's no fool like an old fool."

Just please don't suggest it's all Obama's fault.....[:D]

I think one reason not many US citizens have heard of her is that she does NOT agree with US policy. She makes a compelling argument.

MzMia, you're welcome! I hope a lot of people read it and we could have a good discussion about it!

Just wondering if anyone else has read this book yet? Anyone?   Bueller? Bueller??
