Planned Parenthoods Response - 2/4/2010 6:40:58 AM

Announced last night?
Tim Tebow's Super Bowl ad, which is expected to convey an anti-abortion message and is funded by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, has generated controversy and drawn protests from women's groups. One high power attorney has even alleged that the ad may be based on a falsehood, although the veracity of the claim is not certain. Planned Parenthood released an ad today with former Viking Sean James and Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner. In the ad, the athletes say they "respect Ms. Tebow's decision" not to have an abortion when she was pregnant with her son Tim, but they are also "working toward the day where... every woman's decision about her health and her family will be respected." If you stay with a guy who would rather watch football than have sex, you only have yourself to blame!!!!

This seems like an awful lot of hysteria over a simple affirmation that life is good.

And why did you think you had to start a new thread for this, when there was already a thread about this subject in progress?

What has a corp got to do with anything?
Until you have an unplanned pregnancy and you aren't ready for a child, then you can say its not a big deal, just a lot of hysteria.

Oh and by the way, you dont get to tell me what to post where.
bye now

Oops not meant for Jeffff(gives him fresh some ants)

Do nonprofits follow the corporation model?  They don't sell stock, which is one of the main purposes behind having a corporation.

This seems like an awful lot of hysteria over a simple affirmation that life is good.

A simple affirmation that life is good is the one thing it's not.

Tebow's mom took a helluva risk, and there is no indication that the full magnitude of that risk will be expressed in the Super Bowl spot.

Pam's story certainly is moving. But as a guide to making abortion decisions, it's misleading. Doctors are right to worry about continuing pregnancies like hers. Placental abruption has killed thousands of women and fetuses. No doubt some of these women trusted in God and said no to abortion, as she did. But they didn't end up with Heisman-winning sons. They ended up dead.

Add to that, the Planned Parenthood response (see here) indicates that her story may omit other, unh, details...

Because abortion under any circumstance has been illegal in the Philippines since 1930 and is punishable by a six-year prison term, Allred says she finds it hard to believe that doctors would have recommended the procedure.

The attorney, who has represented a roster of famous clients, claims she will lodge a complaint with the FCC and FTC "if this ad airs and fails to disclose that abortions were illegal at the time Ms. Tebow made her choice," according to RadarOnline.

Who watches adverts anyway? I would definitely not watch one pro life one followed by one pro choice one. I can't even stand to watch party political broadcasts, so all this fuss is over nothing because people shouldn't be using the TV to make up their minds on such matters anyway. Is someone really going to base such choices on a TV ad, very unlikely. TV ads are for going to the toilet or getting a drink.

Also I don't know who Tim Tebow is? Are we talking about that one out of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' who walks about on crutches?

Apparently ads during the Super Bowl are indeed watched by millions.  I waited ever so patiently for Ozzie Osbourne and his family to unveil their ad for Pepsi during one year of the super bowl.  Its the end of your post, Lucy that makes all the difference in the world to me, and is most likely overlooked by many supporting this add......In the ad, the athletes say they "respect Ms. Tebow's decision" not to have an abortion when she was pregnant with her son Tim, but they are also "working toward the day where... every woman's decision about her health and her family will be respected."

Anyone who doesn't feel that way is living in backward times. IMHO

Exactly Louve:)
I cant get the Super Bowl" ads till way after the game, so I have no 'stake" in this other than understanding the need for women to be able to keep their choices.

Those anti abortionists protest each year on the anniversary of the Row vs Wade decision but who listens to them in reality?

My general feeling is nothing is going to change anytime soon although people should be vigilant.

Lucy, I googled this just for you.  I laughed about this ad for literally weeks afterwards and thinking about it still makes me giggle

Maybe they could incorporate Ms Tebow's ad with those nifty e-trade adds featuring the talking babies.

The white talking babies would be yammerin' on about how well their protfolios are doing ...While the sick, abandoned and mostly minority babies could be chattin' it up about how swell it was to be portected in the womb but abandoned immediately upon emerging from the snatch.

And Ms. Tebow would have to pick up all of the discarded babies and nurse them and provide them with all of the health, emotional care, cost of incarceration and stability that they are currently missing.

I can hear her whining...."But these kids look nothing like my beautiful pink boy."

Oh pshaw. If he spends all Saturday and Sunday parked in front of the tv watching every game broadcast, that's one thing. But there's nothing wrong with setting aside 3 hours for an important game. No one's life really comes down to football vs. sex. That's just poor scheduling.
