To get a lot of really nice quality ponyplay gear for cheap, tack shops are probably the best bet for people to go to.  Seriously.  If a real horse was meant to wear it, it's gotta be good quality for a person!  :)

Tack
The main event so to speak!

All tack shops sell adjustable leather reins as well as rubber or rope reins.  There are a lot of styles, like the plain leather draw reins , rubber dressage reins, and fancy stitched leather reins

You can also buy special bits meant for horses with soft mouths, like the rubber bits, gorgeous metal bits meant for tender mouths, and even an apple-flavored plastic bit!  With a little creativity, you can turn a bit converter like this into a bit in and of itself, too; as a gentle beginner bit, this roll of leather works great.

Unfortunately, there really aren't any real horse saddles that can comfortably fit a human being.  However, bareback saddle pads are soft and can fit a human very comfortably, the built-in girth holding the pad on just like a saddle.

You can also buy bell boots like this, which strap around the wrist (or ankle, for horses) like a bondage cuff, but have attached hoof-shaped boots on them which you can either leave open or tape a padded bottom to in order to create a stable hand-hoof for the ponyboy or ponygirl's fist.  You can buy more colorful, prettier ones like these, too.

Brushes
For those of us who are REALLY into full ponyplay, brushes can create the best part of the experience.

Although there are 'hard' brushes like this for sale which are meant to remove mud and loose hair or burrs from a horse's coat, they can be harsh on human skin and I would mostly recommend these for 'punishment' or for hair/tail brushing.

Then there are the nice, soft brushes like this which caress and massage the pony's skin, which are really cheap and great to increase the sensitivity of the pony's skin.  Try using it on the pony's genitals. ;)

For a reward, use this soft mitt to rub perfume or maybe fly spray onto your pony's skin.

Tails
REAL TACK SHOPS SELL HORSE TAILS!

These synthetic horse tails are used for horses who have short or thin tails, but they're absolutely fantastic for ponyplay use!  Made to be as natural as possible, these tails can be cut to the length you want, can be braided, washed, or whatever you want.  A nylon loop at the top is meant to secure the tails to the original tailbone of the horse, but you can wrap it around a favorite plug or the back of a harness to create a really good look for your pony.  Although expensive, they are much higher quality than the tail-plugs you can buy on any BDSM shop site, and feel fantastic and will last literally for life.

To wash your pony's 'mane' and tail (if you purchase one), you can use this Mane 'n Tail shampoo which is actually used by many people in the horse community for their own hair!  (It's true; when out of shampoo I have grabbed this out of my trailer before.)

Treats and Toys
While there's lots to be said for plain treats like these molasses-flavored ones, there are few other types of horse treats which actually taste good to humans and are easy to chew.

Then there are these amazing flavor blocks for horses which actually taste really, really good.  As kids, my sister and I used to buy these things and eat them ourselves.  They're better than candy.  I suggest using only the Mint, Apple, Cherry, and Salt ones; the rest tend to taste a little icky to our human tongues, but these ones are natural and when hung on the holders (which you can buy separately for about $25) make any room feel like a pony stall and are fun to lick and chew on.

For those of you who want to train your pony to jump, you can buy these awesome little cavalletti jumps to do so.  (There are other types and more accessories for jumps available on the site.)

Other Fun Stuff
Although some BDSM sites sell crops and whips for over 30 bucks, you can get much cheaper ones for the same quality from an actual tack shop, like these pretty little crops or these long woven whips.

If you want to put plates on your special tack for shows and the like, you can get them engraved here in lots of different styles and sizes.

To hold all your equipment and toys, you can get a wooden tack box just like the ones in real barns.

Best of luck and happy riding!  <3

Great thread... You lay it out very coherently.

Thanks.  X3

I'm tired of seeing people freaking out cuz they can't find certain 'special' items in BDSM shops for ponyplay.  They really don't need to be looking there.  And commissioning a leatherworker to make special stuff is just going to be more expensive.  I thought this might help some people out.

I actually buy all my equestrian stuff from that site's real-life store :P  They have great service.  They're awesome people, too; I once adopted a puppy from them that they'd found on the highway and taken in.

Update; there's a product called Twinkle Toes that people can put into horses' manes or tails, or even paint onto their hooves, for sparkly shiny color.  Sounds perfect for ponyplay.  :3

Hoof Polish

Sparkle Gel (this DOES stay on the skin and in the hair until you wash it off with soap and water, by the way.  It's oil-free, too, so don't worry about using it on the face or anything.)
