No, you don't know how normal this actually is. You are wrong to say "I know this is weird". It's not wierd to have had other pets without the emotional connection. Nothing weird falling in love. I personally do not think it is a bad thing to fall in love with your pet. The connection you have established makes it much easier for this to happen. If you really care for this person and you are having these feelings, let them know this is how much they mean to you. The level of trust that has been established between the two of you can make this happen very easily.
