quite a few BBS systems were up and operational at that time actually, that's where all this sickness and online protocols started that are now commonplace among the kinky netziens

Thanks ya'll. i learned something new today, always a good thing. i didn't get online until 98 and i guess i figured that the whole internet thing didn't get started until win95 came out. How fast were the modems way back in 88?

i might be wrong, but i think ours was 300 Baud -- if this thread hadn't made me feel old ..

Doing the math, i don't think i was hooked up to something called "global" in 1991, and used it for a local BBS called "sin bin" (a hockey term i found out later..lol). i do know we were up before windows, using an Atari 800 that my ex had upgraded. my kids were on line before me, before AOL even..which really makes me feel old..lol.

well my first machine had a 9.6k modem in an Ibm xt in a text only DOS mode which was actually more than adequate enough for text based dial in bbs systems...and before win95 win 3.1 or 3.11 for workgroups was around using that tech.

I still keep all my old machines from atari music studios to c64 and coleco game machines...then again I am the ubertech geek and thus my storage unit is like the inside of a cuban missle crisis fallout shelter.
