Termyn8or -> It's not the moderators (2/9/2010 1:10:12 PM)

Anything controversial means flame war. Say D6MRD and someone apparently counted the bodies at the front door of Auschwitz in 1945. Talk about taxes and that few dirty little secrets about that and someone claims to have a law that makes it all null and void despite the fact that the IRS itself cannot do so. Talk in support of the death penalty and the opponents thereof would shoot you. Tout our unique gun rights and they similarly want to shoot you.

Describe an incident where you shot an intruder in your home and people think you made it up because they didn't see it on TV. Talk about a less than perfect relatioship and the respondants' deal breakers must become your deal breakers or you are a moron, or stupid or something. Talk about fixing your car and some expert would no doubt pop up telling you that you need a trained professional. Talk about a court case you won and the fact that you are not in jail is not good enough proof.

And proof is in the eye of the beholder. I offer proof you can see and actually hold in your hand and I get called a bigot, and additionally the offer itself was insulting in some way. No, we need links. The internet is God apparently. Well kiddies let me reveal something to you. I know how to edit webpages. I could get some hosting, register a dot org domain and take pages from just about any source and edit them, making it say whatever the hell I want. The only clue you would have is the actual URL and if I do a good enough job at that, the friendly URL function of the browser will take care of the rest and you would never know. It is not difficult. I also have a program that allows me to print on any government letterhead. So what is really proof ?

No document would be good enough unless it's a certified copy, OK. Now how do I feel the notary stamp on it via the internet ? What's more I have access to one of those squishers. Now what's proof ?

And I am not the only one either. Many of us have recieved ads via junkmail that look like official documents, it's just one of those marketing tools. Look at how many people fell for mortgage sale scan so many years ago. I mean I can make money with a laser printer. Open up a bank account with a DBA. Send out about three or four hundred notices in the mail, telling people that their mortgage has been purchased and they now will need to make their payments to ___________________. If ten of them bite and I run the scam for eight months I could make alot of money. And don't worry about the paper trail, all I need is a bum with a picture ID and my name need never come into play. Just pay the guy to do it and voila.

There are a plethora of things I could do. The Micheal Rodent case proves it. That wasn't the guy's name but I bet I could come up with that one. He just went to an office supply store, bought a bunch of blank W2 forms and typed them up, netting him millions. What's more he started doing it again from his prison cell. At the trial for the second bunch of charges his lawyer said "You might as well let him out because you're obviously not rehabilitating him". So, yes, I believe I could prove that via a Google search, but for what reason ? It has nothing to do with the real income tax issue and is fraud plain and simple.

But then how do I prove certain things that never went to court ? I could prove that I got sued for $353,000 in 1978 or 79, because my Mother has run across the original papers. All that proves is having the right lawyer is priceless. But the best victories over the system usually results in something getting thrown out of court. So how does one prove that ?

I don't know. Some think their word is the word of God and cannot be questioned because of their credentials, yet debate global warming, which has both sides of the issue bearing plenty of credentials. What then ? My experts are better than your experts ? But I need to STFU because "I have been told". Shit like that is so hubristic and condescending that it defies my vocabulary of adjectives.

And then we have those who engage in post hoc ergo propter hoc thinking. As if I could prove I got a big dick proves that I am good in bed. And who's to say the sexy supermodel doesn't just lay there like a heap of rags ? And what would constitute proof either way, a video ?

And then even with cites, some say "That site is biased" and they usually go on to deride said site as bigoted, slanted, opinionated or just plain lying. And then a discrepancy between Fox news and CBS news is proof of a consipracy, yet proof of the absence of a conspiracy.

Sadly all of this is evidence that I have overestimated the average intelligence of those here. But still I don't take it as actual proof.

The skeptics simply don't realize that I am alot more skeptical than they.

kdsub -> RE: It's not the moderators (2/9/2010 4:59:07 PM)

You just have to remember most come here for fun...not a debate club...a little verbal combat gets the blood flowing. If someone can be easily upset by a few harsh words in a chat room then they are not suited to be there. There is more to winning an argument than facts...lol...And I like winning...you do too I'll bet.

What we say here means nothing on the world stage so say what you like give and take a few lumps and have fun.

Yes, I guess we are here to have fun, but that doesn't preclude debates of a serious nature. But there seems to be a few hot spots within the realm of possible issues. So many that there are quite a few things I will not bring up here. And I have no fear of the Mods. I might have a post pulled or yanked, but I doubt I would ever say anything that would actually get mee kicked off.

What's more I don't get pissed off. You want to know what pisses me off ? After all these years, getting stuck in the Cleveland snow, I finally have a 4WD. This year is my first year of having a 4WD. Well this season. Whatever. It's only been in 4WD four times ! Dammit ! All the times I needed one and didn't have one and had a bunch of shit to deal with, winching and towing and such, it just won't snow enough. Two of those times were for fun. One I just wantd to play and had the space. Once I pulled out into traffic and found the surface under my rear wheels to be slipperier than expected, so I shifted on the fly and got going so as not to cause a jamup. The one time I got plowed in and was saying just then how I haven't had to kick the 4WD in so far. Murphy's Law took over and of course I got stuck. The only other time was when I put it in 4 low, just to know that it works. That was when I first got it.

In light of this situation, nothing anyone says to me can really piss me off. Especially if it is the truth. I also have no problem saying this : If you expect perfection from me, then I have every right to expect it from you. Fair enough ?

Actuallly if we are different, all of us, logically only one can be perfect. I won't take that job. In fact it is our differences that make the dialogue interesting in the first place.

And while some can actually agree to disagree, other cannot.

Termyn8or -> RE: It's not the moderators (2/12/2010 9:55:38 PM)

OK, thread got lost for a minute.

Statistics don't lie, but....

50,000 of the people are killed in the US every year by _____

1.67 % of the people are killed in the US every year by _____

Now this not yet addresses how statistics can be made to lie, perhaps it would be more apt put that raw data don't lie. Statistics are derived from such data. But consider the example above. To say that people are killed by something, assuming that these are some categorized form of accidents or a disease or whatever, take on one of two meanings to the beholder. The paltry 1.67% is actually approzomately 50,000 people. Which way it is presented is the only difference it but can be concieved in a totally different light, even by identical persons.

By the AMA's own estimates, medical care killed 250,000 in a year. That is over 8.3% of the total population, but for some reason is addresssed less fervently to say the least. Why ? Because of the undefined cause of death of those 50,000 people were put out in front, for all to see. The AMA figures are apparently not front page news. So this is one tool of manipulation.

Manipulation 102 includes the careful selection of questions on a poll. As brought up and ricketily segued into by myself, a point brought up in the movie Palermo Connection.

Question A: Do you want to see your kids grow up to be drug addicts ?

Question A: Do you want to see your kids killed or jailed because of a drug bust ?

What this means friends is that even the supposedly raw, empirical data can be manipulated when it comes to certain things. Public opinion polls are especially vulnerable to this type of manipulation. But it doesn't stop there.

When a team of research scientists are contracted to research something, they are set to sally forth the best interest of those who pay the bills. Look at how many times this research has actually contradicted and even reversed itself over the years. First one thing is good for you and the other is bad, then the tables turn. If the data were really true, the truth would stand. Therefore none of the data are empirically true because if so, this could NEVER happen.

So what others accept as proof, I often do not. As such other alternative theories and opinions are entertained and evaluated. This does not mean I buy into every conspiracy theory even born, nor does it mean I summarily dismiss a notion, even if snopes dubunks it. Snopes has been debunked, or would that be rebunked ? A good site nonetheless, but you can't expect them to know everything.

This all ties into everything. Advertising, political ads and whatnot, ,,,actually that pretty much sums it up. Illusion is the King of the world now. In these matters I have been admonished NOT to take my certain stance, not to go with MY plan. Time and time again I am proven right. It is a matter of illusion. The more closed you want to be, the more open you must appear. To customers, adversaries in business or whatever, it is not your idea that counts it is their perception. That comes only from your presentation.

In a discussion, if I have been pretty much proven wrong and I will admit it. But in anything that even smells like an adversarial situation I will never admit I am wrong unless it is to my advantage to do so. Kapeesh ?

Any decent PR person will tell you the same if they are willing, but they spent good money on that fancy education so they see knowledge shared as power lost. I paid for my education with my life. They make money off of it.

NIce to see you in thread Alpha. Bumming around a bit ? :-) I say - ENJOY.

Four minutes and two seconds to read, analyze, opine and comment.

Not a record but getting close.

Gotcha by 00:02:51

Screw it, someone do the math. I hate figuring out hours and seconds and all that.
