Duvet Covers, grrrrrr

Duvet Covers, grrrrrr - 2/9/2010 5:40:59 PM

Status: offline 		Duvet covers, why are they so annoying, so many ways I have tried to make putting a duvet cover on a duvet less of a chore and reason to get angry. I have tried many ways that seem logical to me, including crawling in the duvet cover with the corners of the duvet in my hands and there locating the the duvet corners in the corners of the cover, and then carefully backing out, but more often than not, it just goes wrong, how the hell is this task done, is there a simple way of doing it, or does everyone else have a hair extracting session when it comes to changing the duvet cover ?

Status: offline 		It took me a couple of years to solve the whole 'shove the down stuff into the duvet and keep it lump free' thing. Very frustrating trying to get it to my liking, even when I dropped my standards and tried to accept some lumping and bunching.

Finally though, late one night after what seemed hours of wrestling with an obstinate inanimate object that I was beginning to loathe the answer came to me.

I gave it to my ex and bought pretty blankets to layer.

Status: offline 		I never could figure out the whole duvet thing either.  I also can't stand how store bought comforters use that fishing line stuff that comes out after 2-3 washes so now I stick with making my own.

Status: offline 		Velcro. Seriously. Inside corners ... some edges.
Doesn't last forever, but works well and you can take out the comforter, wash the cover, put it back on.

Status: offline 		I have the entire how to get them on straightened out as long as they are queen or smaller... my Daddy used to help me put them on his Cali king sized comforter... but my gripe is I ordered one for a full sized bed and it  was advertised as mocha colored... the fucker is GOLD.  It clashes with every fucking thing... I will have to return it to Amazon

There is no simple way to place/prepare a duvet.

Status: offline 		Easiest way to get the comforter back INTO the Duvet Cover...IS...

roll up the part that goes inside ( The comforter) into a GIANT twinkie shaped roll..

Shove the rolled up comforter into the duvet cover..and line up the bottom edge to the back edges of the cover...and slowly unroll the comforter towards you, slowly filling up the duvet.

If things are still being difficult, you can always use large safety pins to help hold the edges together, before you unroll the comforter. Just pin through the duvet down into the comforter.

Status: offline 		Ideally, two people.... you can do it with one but its more stressful.  You can also sew some ribbon in the corners and tie it around the edges of the comforter to help keep them in place.  (You can also use safety pins but obviously you run the risk of sticking yourself sometime in the future.)

Reach in, turn inside out.  With your hand underneath (so you're touching the right side out) grab the accompanying corner.  (If there are ribbons or fasteners, tie them off now.)  If you're doing this with someone else, have one hold these two bottom ends so the corners stay in place.  Then, pull the cover up over the rest of the comforter (in turn then obviously pulling it right side out again.)  Once you have it all the way up you can just reach in and put the two top corners in place.

If you have to do it alone, I recommend inserting two safety pins through the corners before you pull it up so they stay in place.  There are a lot of frustrating ways to do it, but you should have it done in about 5 minutes with this method or maybe even less.

This is the same method I was talking about.  If you're using a smaller one like she shows its easy to do.  Larger ones you might want help with - just because its easier that way and you don't have to shake.

I had to laugh.  I dread washing the Duvet cover because that means putting it back on.  Ugh.

Corner to corner.  I stuff the comforter partly into the cover.  Then I reach in and grab one corner, and pull the cover downward over it, until the cover's corner is in alignment with the comforter's corner.  Then I do it to the other side.  Then I pull the top center of the comforter to the top center of the duvet cover.

From there I just pull the sides down and match the bottom corners, and then close that baby up.  I have a queen sized one, and I have it down to a science now.  But I still hate it.

Status: offline 		The duvet I can deal with.  It's a case of putting the cover inside out then taking the ends from the inside, holding the corners and letting it fall/unroll.

It's the fitted sheets that annoy me! You do one corner, tuck it all in... walk around do another... fine... get to the third, pull and straighten and then ping!  The first corner you have tucked in pulls out.... argh.

Status: offline 		Well it's not an ideal solution, but I have found a way that makes it less annoying.  I lay the cover out on the bed, open end at the bottom. Find the ends of the duvet, take one top corner, and guide into the top corner of the laid out cover then feed the other corner into the other top.  Then I grip the cover and duvet by the corners, stand on the bed, and shake it vigorously.  Wah la.  button it up and it's good to go.  I've tried to get Master to help me, but really He can only assist in the shaking part, as He's a lot taller than me with longer arms, so it's easier for Him.

Definitely more annoying than a regular comforter, but I have yet to find anything as warm and snuggly as a duvet.  Being able to wash the covers is a big bonus, washing comforters gets them all pilly and lumpy, which I hate.  The cuddly warmness is worth the extra effort to me.
