AUSTIN, Texas — A Republican gubernatorial candidate said Thursday she has questions about whether the U.S. government was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — a statement she swiftly backed away from and one that drew immediate criticism from her better-known rivals in the race.

Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison dismissed the comments made by Debra Medina on the Glenn Beck Show that there were "some very good arguments" that the U.S. was involved in bringing down the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

"I don't have all of the evidence there, Glenn," Medina said. "I think some very good questions have been raised. In that regard there's some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there."

Medina later released a statement saying she did not believe the government was involved in the attacks.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11," Medina said in the written statement. "I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way."

Perry said Medina's remarks "were an insult to the thousands of Americans who lost loved ones." He countered that anyone "should be ashamed" for suggesting involvement by former President George W. Bush's administration. Bush was Perry's predecessor as Texas governor.

Hutchison stressed that it was "al-Qaida terrorists who declared war on America. To suggest otherwise is an affront to the men and women who are sacrificing their lives to root out the terrorists in Afghanistan and around the globe."

Beck, who is influential among the Libertarian-leaning voters that Medina has attracted, said he had been flooded with mail since he announced she would be on the show. Medina said in the interview that she has not been questioning the attacks publicly.

"There was a theme that ran against you, and that is, you are a '9/11 Truther,'" Beck said, referring to the term given to people who doubt the official account of Sept. 11.

"While I don't endorse anyone ... I think I can write her off the list," Beck said. "Let me take another look at Kay Bailey Hutchison if I have to. Rick, I think you and I could French kiss right now."

Uh oh.  RealOne will be here in a flash.

Im not passing judgement. She did what she did, then she appologized. I think this will be an election to watch. If she can sway the voters despite this little faux pas, would show that the sentiments of voters is indeed changing.

My guess? Immediately following her Glenn Beck appearance, she was contacted by the PTB. She was either told to back off, or she was offered a deal she couldn't refuse.

Im sure either could have happened. She seems to have been the forerunner to that point. Now, does Beck have the ability to end that lead, did she end it herself, or is the american public so tired of the same ole from both sides that she will seem like a breath of fresh air? Shades of Palin, perhaps?

You do realize what you started here?

Now we are going to be hearing about the Powers That Be and the New World Order for 20 pages.

Well, if the PTB scared the woman to death, no one can blame her for ending it right there. I can't imagine what Beck can do with it at this point, unless she retracts her retraction... which I highly doubt will happen.

As far as the voters in her district are concerned, it all depends upon their beliefs regarding how 9-11 unfolded. If the majority believe the official story, then she's doomed. If the majority believe there is more behind the official story, she still has a chance.

i blame an unholy coalition of the British royal family, the Kennedies, some unspecified zionists and Thadius. Look at his picture and tell me he's not part of the NWO...

I am just wondering what would happen if all three candidates were asked if they believed in evolution.

Or the so-called "round earth" theory.

Maybe I don't wanna know.

subfever -> RE: An out of step Republican... An interesting election for Texas Governor. (2/11/2010 7:34:00 PM)

My guess is that Medina would express what she believes to be the truth.

pahunkboy -> RE: An out of step Republican... An interesting election for Texas Governor. (2/11/2010 7:47:04 PM)

Medina for TEXAS!   YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

thornhappy -> RE: An out of step Republican... An interesting election for Texas Governor. (2/11/2010 9:07:33 PM)

I'd bet it would be "no" on evolution.  Just see the wars they have over biology textbooks.

AnimusRex -> RE: An out of step Republican... An interesting election for Texas Governor. (2/11/2010 9:28:06 PM)

Yes, but how does she stand on the so-called "Round Earth" theory?

Lets do this! Lets start that meme, of demanding to know where Republicans stand on this issue.

Because you know, 95% of COLLEGE professors believe in the "Round Earth" theory (RE for short);

In fact, Al GORE is a main adherent of RE theory;

and some of the strongest evidence to support RE theory came from....The University of East Anglia!!!

Saul Alinsky even claimed to have traveled....AROUND the world!

Scary, huh?

We absolutely must get this going within Wingnuttia!

Hunky, send me a list of your frequently viewed websites- I need to start planting pronto.

http://www-history.mcs.st-and.ac.uk/Mathematicians/Eratosthenes.html

Well, it was a Greek called Eratosthenes who claimed the Earth was round and even claimed to have measured it - and we know how unreliable those Greeks are with numbers and such when they find their deficit is twice what they thought it was...... plus which being European he must have been a Socialist, and still worse he'd never attended a church in his life.

Case closed I'd say

E

Sounds like a Jew to Me. After what the Jews did to the poor Germans at Auschwitz, I have never trusted them!

As a Texan, I would take anyone over Perry and Kay-Bay.

TXU proposed to build 11 new coal fired power plants here and Perry did everything he could to fast-track implementation of this horrendous strategy. 11, we already have such bad air pollution. One summer, ozone went to level purple. FUCKING PURPLE!!! They had to make that one up because the highest was red. They said that everyone should stay inside and avoid going out of doors at all costs. Except that Lollapalooza was going on and the rest of the day, on The EDGE, KDGE, they alternated reports on the level purple Ozone alert and bring your ass down here to Lollapalooza, hardly anyone is here.

Kay-Bay, I sent her a letter asking that she vote to have the Military Commissions Act repealed. She sent me back a batch letter explaining how we needed the MCA in order to protect our interrogators from being prosecuted under the Geneva Convention. She also went on to say how these tactics were saving millions of lives. Yeah, right!

Anybody, but anybody is better than either of these two!
